It Looks like everything is good to go for crossbows in Texas - except one county! The vote was 31-1 in favor!
Thanks to Guide Girl and all of the others who worked hard for crossbow inclusion in Texas!!
Now we just wait for the Governor.

Congrats and great job, Wendy and all who were involved.
Am a non-hunting woman who supports hunting and the right to use a crossbow.

Well over all it is a victory for all of us crossbow hunters.
Unfortunately the "Grayson County Bow String Mafia" have some how gotten
Grayson County (at this time) exempted from the legislation.
How hypicritical is that? I mean they are the only archery only county in the State of Texas and they get exempted from this. Grayson county more than any other should have this rule allowing all archery equipment to be used during archery equipment.
I am a little bitter because that is were I hunt. They got my petition to fail using reasons like stray bullets and population safety. Well what is thier reasoning behind this one?

How influential was the NRA in the decision?
In some circles, they are getting a lot of blame/credit.

Hopefully, the weight of the NRA and it's (our) membership did what it was supposed to do. That was great that they took the time and money to send
Darren LaSorte out from Virginia to speak on behalf of hunters rights. Unlike some "other" hunting and gun right groups and clubs, they backed up all hunters right to freedom of choice. They are awesome and I'll renew my membership when the time comes. They understand the big picture of things concerning hunters rights obviously. Stand united. There are big threats to our freedoms out there.

You should petition your legislature to direct the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department not to allocate one red cent of Pittman Robertson revenue-sharing money to Grayson County, commencing immediately. If these knuckledraggers want to stunt hunter opportunity based solely on a personal, unscientific bias toward a specific weapon, they can do it without the help of the rest of the hunting population in Texas that are currently supporting them via license sales.
Let them buy their own land, manage their own resources, fund their own initiatives. Send a loud and clear message that when you stunt hunter opportunity, it comes at no small price!

You know, I don't understand why the crossbow wasn't included there. I do kinda understand why they don't allow firearms, but not the crossbow. I see it as since this has passed statewide, it shouldn't take much effort to get crossbows allowed in Grayson county now. While everything was going down, I chose not to question the issue, assuming it would be an easy fix later on. It was best to take care of the major issue only at the time. The committee didn't seem to want to do that either, but was put on the spot and were in a hurry to get it voted on and shut it down. In other words, they weren't happy.
So, maybe this can be your new project. It only takes one person to step up and get it rocking. You can do it.

Guide Girl,
I petitioned last year for a firearms season. That got real ugly real quick. I can tell you why the crossbow law was not included in Grayson county. Those bow hunters there have everyone bullied or convinced with there propoganda. I mean the Nazi's have nothing on these guys.
If someone would of told Estes to set down and shut the hell up and not try and play favorites this would not of happened. Estes is soo deep in those yahoo's pockets he doesn't fart without their permission.
I am still trying to clean up the mess that last year caused. Which should be pretty soon. I do not know when I will attack this one though. I may wait til this season is over so it does not get in the way of my season like last year did. When I do decide to attack this issue I will ask for the crossbow nation and the National Crossbow Association. I am not attacking that crew again without back up. Oh who am I kidding, I will do it with or without help.

Well now. You won't be trying to propose a firearm season. You'll be having the rule amended now that crossbows are considered archery equipment and it was signed into law as of May 23, 2009 by Governor Rick Perry.
Grayson county is archery only, so crossbows should be listed as legal. Someone may already be working on this. I'm not for sure, but I would contact Homers office and ask.
