I looked at all the various state's laws regarding crossbows ( easily googled ). I was amazed at the ridiculous impositions that have been placed upon the crossbow. Illegal under all circumstances, used only during rifle season, handicapped permit exclusionary rule number 2 and only if verifiable, last week of archery only, etc. etc.
It is like legislators think the crossbow is too lethal. Somehow a more humane harvest is less than desired. I am sure that the sport of hunting needs to have states ensure that their deer get a slower arrow so the illusion of fairness can continue. What about the fairness to the deer of a reliable shot from a new hunter ?
Then of all the states explainations of permitted usage, I stumbled upon this:
South Carolina
Archery equipment is now defined as " a bow and arrow, a long bow, a recurve bow, a compound bow, or a cross bow.”
Someone in South carloina has their head on straight. I don't want special rights, I just want equal rights. I want these equal rights.
It is sad that politicians give so little thought to what is right, and so easily go with what makes them feel good.
Georgia has it right as well, but I prefer the way South Carolina states it.
I hope there is a way to change all this. There should be a way. Or lets have us a long bow only season somewhere to get even.
I also wonder what the ratio of sales of vertical bows to horizontals is in Georgia and S. Carolina. I also wonder what they would be in Florida if the rules changed overnight.
I see inequity that is in place due to pure ignorance or worse.
I shall go hide now. Maybe I'll peak later.
I rant, therfore I am

They allow them here in Cal. and Arizona for the disabled during archery season, but for everyone else it's gun season only...so I use mine during gun season, and just go where others are not, CA is one big state, and believe it or not it's not hard thing to do (hunting alone)
Excal Exomax
Bowtech Destroyer 350
Bear Grizzly Traditional....and many other bows
