Today I will review the McKenzie High performance Shot blocker target,Rated for crossbow use. This target can be used for broad heads or field tips.I am looking for a broad head target that can adequately stop the arrow before the vanes enter the target thereby sometimes damaging the vanes. So firing a Easton power bold 512 gn arrow at 356 fps with a NAP 125 mechanical broad head and blazer vanes from my Bowtech Strykeforce.Note the first shot will be at the target utilizing the widest width of the target-18x18" L 14" D
First shot at 25 yards ,bullseye.
However the blazer vanes were penetrating the target with the NAP broad head having penetrated the 18 inch width of the target by several inches.I knew this was not good, but decided to shoot another arrow using the 14 inch width of the target. The following photographs tell the story.
Again, would not recommend the McKenzie Shot blocker for the Bowtech Strykeforce crossbow.
Photos
#1 new McKenzie shot blocker target.
#2 and #3 Results first using 18 inch depth of shot blocker target shot with NAP mechanical broad head.
#4,5,6 Results of second shot using 14 inch depth of shot blocker target shot with NAP mechanical broad head.

It would be nice to find a target that would stop this bow. Im shooting a 508gr arrow I have a buckmasters broad head target. I was shooting one of my old grizzly 2 blade heads it went through like it wasnt there.
Thanks for the report

good report... my guess is a lighter arrow may shoot through less but do not know.. got any lighter ones laying around ? like 420 or so ? I like heavy a lot but some folks do not.. my guess is the penetration is both the speed and the wieght by momentum..
would be most interested in a lighter arrow sent with the SForce..
how about it..

thanks for what you have reported ..

I agree Dan a lighter arrow would most likely not penetrate the two targets as tested, and reviewed. The review was more or less for people shooting the faster bows with the heavier arrows.Since I no longer have the two targets tested ,will not be able to shoot a lighter arrow at said targets.
I have shot a lighter Arrow at 391 fps in to a older block target and it just penetrated the target by about a half inch.
Took everything I could do to get the arrow out of the Block target.
The number one reason I like the Easton power bolt arrows and the total weight of 512 gns is because it puts me dead on with the multiple aim point reticle from 20 yards out to 60 yards with the Hawk map scope.
Since this is the setup I plan to hunt with I figure this is what I should practice with.
But I will have to say, using the NAP spitfire 125 mechanicals that shoot exactly like my field points, has cut down on my practicing with the NAPs.
Also haveing done several test using paper placed just in front of the targets to make sure the NAPs do not open prematurely. After dozens of such test, none opened prematurely.

Rubber mats-
My archery club does this with rubber mats nailed behind their excelsior bales and it works great for field points. Here's a sample bale and we have wooden roofs and rubber mats behind them.

I figured, why not try it with the broadheads?
So: I prop one of these mats up behind my foam, broadhead target and it stops the arrows from penetrating too far.
However, I prefer:
We also have a sand pit to shoot broadhead arrows into. Make your own target out of cardboard and put a few bullseyes on it and place in front of the pit.
Done.
