I'm back from Worlds, didn't do as well as I had expected but....  When I left long range forecast called for highs in the upper 70's.   Well.....Thursday, the first day, started with heavy fog making those shooting early having a tough time seeing the targets.  Only a silhouette visible.  Then the Sun came out and we had a 95* day.  Mark Beck had a 193-6x for the lead, I was 2nd with 193-5x and I believe Kenny Barr a 190-?x for 3rd.  Friday was an instant replay of Day 1, mid 90's!  I had a good front 10 targets, but ran out of gas near the middle of the second 10, (heat and allergies) and scored a zip on one very misjudged target, scoring a 178-4x.  Kenny shot an excellent 201-?x taking the lead for the shoot off on Saturday.  Mark shot consistant with a 191-?x.  Tim Tasker was waiting in the wings, and took full advantage of my zip, even suffering from a pulled muscle in his back on target 2 of the second day and a bad slip and fall on the course.

The shoot off of the top 5 were as follows.  Kenny Barr 391
                                                           Mark Beck  384
                                                           Tim Tasker 383
                                                           Roy Meditz 371
                                                           Pierre ?      367 (sorry can't
                                                                                remember last
                                                                                name) Canadian

All courses were very difficult, uphill/downhill shots, hiding yardage, over ravines, etc.  The Shoot Off course was even more so.

All shooters suffered some judging problems, and Tim unfortunately clipped a tree on one target giving him a zip.  This put me in a better position until target 9 of the 10 in the shoot off.  I was only down 1 point going into this target, but I guess feeling sorry for Tim scored my zip misjudging that target badly, shooting underneath it.  I think only one shooter scored a ten on that target, others all scored a 5, except me of course.  I finished with a 10 on the last target for an 89-1x.

The results of the shoot off made no changes in the competitor standings.  First Place and 2009 IBO World X Bow Champion is Kenny Barr, 2nd is Mark Beck, and 3rd is Tim Tasker.  I finished 4th, with Pierre 5th.  Sorry I don't remember the final total scores except for 3rd, 4th and 5th, so I won't post any at this time.  You can check the IBO website for official results in a few days.  I do know that my zip in the shoot off kept me from moving into 3rd.  Zips happen!

It was a fun shoot with lots of ribbing and riding.  We really are all for each other when we shoot.  My congratulations to the winners, and all the competitors that shot, without you there could be no winners!

In retrospect, I'm disappointed with the extremely poor judging on those 2 shots, but....not bad for a "Rookie" year.  I did win the Delaware, Virginia and Maryland State IBO Championships in X Bow class.  I also won First Place in the 1st and 2nd Legs of the IBO Triple Crown at Bedford, In and McKean, Pa respectively.  Finished 2nd in the IBO National Championship.

I'll now shoot a couple of 3D's for fun and get geared up for hunting season.

Thanks to all following my trials and tribulations.  Come out and shoot some 3D.  As I wrote in this thread, sometimes even the best can get a zip!  AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!

What brand xbows were they all shooting?

Back when I was shooting compounds I came in second in mens open in the IBO qualifier one year. I was way up until a huge thunderstorm came in and I had to shoot in the rain. Rain and scopes do not mix well! LOL  I was only 2 points down from #1 when it was over.

Thanks for the report and good shooting this year.  I am looking into possibly having a contingency program next year for the crossbow class.  We'll see.

All,
   Bow Brands:
Places 1,3, and 4 were Excal's, 2 and 5 were Ten Points, 6 and 7 were Darton's, and Horton was 8th.
As the Guru said, they were tough darn courses.  My hat is off to the IBO for giving us a true Championship fight.   I had one heck of a good time.  the guys in the Xbow Class are top notch, and I am proud to call all of them friends!!!

Thanks,

Congratulations to all, and for the hard work it took to get to where you are all at in your shooting skills and accomplishments. That is something to be very proud of and what an honor to be there. My hats off to all of you awesome shooters. Actually, you could say you are the best of the best. Wow! That is something special.

If you get a chance, come on down and shoot Dixie and Fort Lee  fun shoots with me. These will be the last 2 (August) for me. They have shoots in September but that's too close to hunting season for me.

I am proud of the members that shot the courses and reported to we that knew so little of it all... I am most interested now and may try to partake so far as i get to compete.. Like maybe lafayette north side of down town legal section criminal law preliminaries i may have a chance if i am the only one there... But i am all about the shooting and winning is not necessarily all there is to it... I would love that but .. ... I am into my motto..

Keep it fun..

In all things if possible.

btw : I am glad to see mark is quite good as well...no wonder he can answer some questions too...
