For the last several years since moving to Indiana , Try and try, I have never been able to take advantage of our urban deer hunting program, even though I live very close to an urban zone.
Hunting property opportunities within the urban zones are hard to come buy.

Today while riding down a country road just hundreds of feet inside a urban zone I observed a small heavily wooded parcel of land with several deer feeding in an open area near the back of the property.

I parked and was watching the deer when a farmer approached on a tractor mowing the shoulder. We engaged in small talk for a while introducing our selves ,told him I was retired.  After a few minutes,He asked if I was a Deer hunter and I told him ,only with a crossbow, and out of the blue said he was looking for some one like me to remove a few of those deer I was watching.

I could not believe it ,after looking for a place for years, here is a hunting area presented not seven miles from home.

The farmer then took me on the tractor and showed me the rear of his property My eyes almost popped out,can you believe, 4 acres of Apples that cant be seen from the road, and about 5 acres of creek bottom and a large field of beans. We then went to his house, I met his wife and two dogs, Squeaky and Squacky the fox Terriers. He filled out a hunting permission form, signed it And said good hunting come Sept 15 th.

Some body pinch me I must be dreaming.
But I will be urban zone deer hunting come Sept 15.

Great deal.

Are your urban area tags cut rate like Ohio's?
Here statewide tags are $24 a beast while Urban Tags are $15.

Sometimes things just fall in our laps. As most of us know, some farmers just won't allow any hunting on their ground and have the reputation of being hard-nosed about it such that it's best not to bring up the subject to them. Such was the case with one particular farmer who controlled several hundred acres of crops and timberland next to a river. His land joined a place where I did have permission to hunt but on which there really wasn't a decent place to park my truck. Seeing him at our small town post office one day, I finally got up the courage to ask if he cared if I parked my truck on him. "No problem", he said, "all you've got to do is ask."  Reaching down for a little more moxey, I then asked, "What would it take to gain permission to hunt on some of your ground?" "All you've got to do is ask." came his reply...and that's how I got permission to hunt on several hundred acres of ground that others don't because they just never asked...and I'm not going to tell them either!

Congratulations - I know your on another team, but I hope you do real good there.  I grew up in Indiana - farm near Vincennes - farmers make decisions on a lot of thing, they normally read people well.  That speaks good for you.  Remember the farmer after you harvest something.  I always found that just offering part of the animal was appreciated.  Just that one thing got me invited back more often than anything else.
Good luck and good hunting.
