I have not hunted elk since the Recurve, Bear Razor Head, and Rothharr Snuffer days of long ago, but hope to go next year with my Vision 175.  Question - With all the new broadhead designs what would be a good fixed blade choice and/or a good mechanical.  I do not  want to use my Rage 2-Blades because elk ribs are much thicker than deer!

Check out these heads vertually indestructable, fly like field points and come razor sharp. I posted a link below for your convenience.

You'd probably get quite a few more responses on the forum's "general crossbow discussion"

I can only speak for deer ribs:)  I'm a recent convert to the Slick Trick 4 blade. Although it is a small diameter head, its total cutting area equals or exceeds that of the rage 2 blade, they are sharp as hell and I can't see any way blades would come out even on Elk ribs. they are also the closest to the same POI of field points I've found. Using them with several different crossbows ranging from 295 to 380 fps, they all hit within 1 to 2" of a field point of the same weight out at 50 yards. That tells me it's the optimum fixed blade head for crossbow arrow flight. JMO:)

a Razor Trick 4 blade at an extreme angle facing me. Severed 2 ribs going in and embedded in the thigh bone on the opposite side.

That's what I use for deer hunting, glad to know they will work hunting elk as well, should I ever get the golden opportunity.

I used the Spitfire Magnum 170 grains and had great luck. Hit like a truck!

I've repeatedly read on Vertical Bow forums over the years that Slick Tricks are an excellent choice on Elk.  I've shot Slick Tricks through ribs and both scapula of a deer three years ago with my vertical @ 74KE ... and cut through about 6 of them on an extremely hard quartering away shot a few weeks ago with my Strykeforce @ 140KE.   The only broadhead I've had out cut and out penetrate my Slick Tricks was a German Kinetics Silverflame.    BUT ... it's a two blade head that cost about $25.00 each one.  More suited to killing sasquatchs, yetis and rhinoceros’ I should think.

Here's a link to BOWSITE, a vertical bow forum that has an ELK forum.  You can read around there for ELK information ... just don't tell them you shoot a crossbow if you join.  LOL
