I got deer # 106 tonight, not this evening. My son and I had just left our lease where we had hunted this evening and were appx 1/4 mi past the farmer's house(who owns the land I've hunted on for 26 years - I take great care of him) when I saw two doe running thru his neighbor's front yard towards my 2005 Tundra. I slid to a stop but the lead doe hit my truck head on. Killed it. Very slight tear in my front bumper(epoxy will fix it easily). We gutted it, got the farmer to tag it, and took it to the processers for him. He is very physically fit(76 years old - a polished gentleman who still farms full time)but has a serious knee problem which will likely require an operation just as soon as he gets his crops in. Anyway, this wasn't how I wanted to get a deer this evening. 1st time to ever hit a with a vehicle.
My first doe of the year

Dang suicide deer. Eventually they will get you no matter how slow or careful you drive. I hit one once, 15 mph in a snow storm. Dang thing wouldn't move out of the road and it was so icy I could not stop. Another one hit me. Ran into the side of my F-150 at break neck speed. I was doing about 60, did a flip over the bed of the truck and kept running. Sounded like a bomb going off. Never even put a dent in the truck. Built Ford Tough!

Ya know, I've heard of people committing suicide by cop. I guess it's not impossible for a deer to commit suicide by truck. At least the social action people can't interview it to determine the underlying physicological reasons for it's attempted (and completed) suicide.
I guess I'm getting loopy from lack of sleep to come up with stuff like this. Anyway SEW I'm glad your truck wasn't damaged too bad. And you could tag the animal, I understand that in some states you cannot collect the animal in situations like yours and yet when I was in ND if you hit a deer, or the other way around, you could pay the state trooper $1.00 and he would give you a tag for the animal so you could process it.

I believe in AR if you have a hunting license, you must tag the deer yourself if you kill a deer by vehicle; otherwise, you must give the deer to the game warden or law enforcement. Likely, I broke the law. I don't want to tag a vehicle hit doe. The farmer wants it anyway.

A guy who had been hunting for years but never killed a buck finally got a small eight pointer with his truck one night heading home from hunting. He was so excited he had me mount it for him!

I'm doing okay although this body I am in isn't doing so hot. But the Lord is giving me a new one, so why worry about it?

Sorry about the truck but glad it didn't go to waste.

:)The truck has virtually no apparent damage. There is a small tear in the vinyl part of the bumper on the Tundra. A person has to look for it. The rut doesn't seem to be going strong here - or at all. Pre-rut activities are going on of course.

Glad the truck and you are ok. Great of you to help out the farmer. I am sure he appreciated it.
What is it about those F150s? I was going to work in one this time of year. 8 point jumped out, hit my brakes, buck up on hood and off. I broke the steering wheel and all my ribs but one. I had my seat belt on going between 50 and 55. Junk happens. My mother-in-law was in the passenger side of one of those pickups another time and a buck came through the side window and into her lap. She survived and the buck didn't; but she is one tough lady.
We came within inches of taking one this morning on the way to church with the car. This time of year they pop out with no time to react. The hard part is that they are the same color as the background up here at this time of year. Anyway I am glad that you are fine and I hope the next one goes down in front of your bow.
