[COLOR="Blue"][/CBeing a new member, I`d like to start by saying hi to all..
I belive that one of the biggest problems is lack of TRUE information..I`ve been using a crossbow for about 15 yrs. now..Started because of disabilities..What really bothers me the most is that most people have the belief that crossbows are like guns !!!..I wish I could make an ethical kill out to 50-60 yards like "traditional" archers can..My comfort range is 20-25 yards..There ARE two simularities to a gun, 1) You fire with a trigger (which is how "traditional" archers do also with their releases), 2) A crossbow sounds like a gun when fired :D..For unknown reasons, some people belive a crossbow can shoot out to outragous distances..Last I knew, even the game commisioners must belive this too, since they want to list crossbow kills in the Firearms cat..I think that all Archers should stick together & concentrate on the more important issues we face, not fighting over choice of weapon used..
Thanks for hearing my 2 cents... OLOR]

For a new guy (to the forum) you sound like your right on track! Misinformation is the only thing the anti-crossbow folks have going for them.

an uneducated expert!
The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, denied, hindered, compromised, restricted, reduced, violated, lessened or plain 'ol messed with.

"Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end."

A few weeks ago i was in Gander Mountain. Ag uy was in there looking at crossbows with his wife and this jackass starts mouthing off about all the usual rederick about crossbows.
This guy looking at the CBs was as cool as I ever seen someone. He casually says to the bigmouth, "so I guess you shoot a bow you made from a piece of wood, with a sinew string, and wooden arrows with turkey feathers & a chipped-stone arrowhead, huh?"  The bigmouth just stares at him, I think he knew he was done for.  Then CB guys says " do you shoot some type of cammed-compound, with fiber optic sights, a fall-away rest, release aide, peep sight, and carbon arrows with mechanical broaheads?  Is it something like that?"  Big mouth says "well" and then CB guy says, " I thought it would be something like what I described, but yet, you have a problem with me over here?  How bout you mind your own business, or maybe we could finish this discussion in the parking lot!"  Bigmouth turned red as an apple, and snuck away in shame.  I was never more proud in my life.  That was great!

It's just a shame that ANY hunter has to defend himself for his/her choice of legal weapon! The anti crossbow supporters are dividing hunters with their "do it my way" mentality!! Many of these guys/gals just don't get it!!

I don't understand the controversy at all. I hunt with Muzzleloaders, Crossbow, Compound Bows, and Traditional Bows. Hunting is hunting, and there is plenty of woods for everyone.

well the way i look at it once i'm too old to shoot my vert bow in NY state without the use of crossbows i won't have much of a reason to support the sport of archery anymore...you know what they say about paybacks and what goes around comes around. and bowhunting is the number one target for the anti's, you would think bow hunters in my state would want to have all the members it can get, wether they use a vert bow or x-bow??

I wonder why the anti's target bow hunters? I thought they targeted hunters, period. Bow hunters are quiet, and if they miss, they don't accidently hit a house or livestock. If they want a bone to pick I wish they would just target poachers and leave the legal hunters alone no matter what they hunt with.

I believe groups like HSUS pick their fights and like wolves, go for the weakest, in their perception.  As sportsmen/women, we need to stick together more than we do.  Trappers are a favorite target.  While I never was much of one, I sure recall the history of it in the US and would hate to see it outlawed.

Back when MI  got hosed on the dove hunting, i sent a few bucks their way and posted an invite on all my forums for others to help regardless of state of residence.

The silence was deafening.:D
Move along now, nothing to see here

we are all poachers as far as they are concerend. and they target bowhunters because we are a much smaller group than rifle/gun hunters, they undermine by little steps, just look at gun control laws. this is why vert bow guy's better wake up and support hunters who wanna use crossbows....
