In the last couple of days I have seen a marked increase in scrapes and rubs here in northeast Mississippi where I hunt. It is still early and the peak of the rut is seveal weeks away, but at least the "guy deer" are making their presence known. What about you Rainwater or anyone else out there? What are you seeing? - razor edge

I've seen nothing yet but hearing of a little activity going on. Usually our best rutt happens the first week in Jan. According to the county map the "meen" date for a small area that stretches from my house to yours is Jan 11. Why that one small area is so late is beyond me but I usually live in the woods the first week in Jan. We sometimes see spotted fawns as late as Dec. from the secondary rutt. I haven't seen a spotted fawn all year so maybe things are back on track. I came home from Memphis thursday at sundown on 72 hwy and didn't see a single deer. Normally I would have seen around 30 if the rutt was getting near so I just don't know. TenX lives in the deer capital so maybe he can tell us something. I've got a 6 day hunt coming up close to him the first of muzzleload season.

Good luck on your hunt next week! I probably will not get to go again until Saturday, but I have a stand in a great looking place with lots of sign. Let me know how you do.

Several people said been seeing heavy sign from Shiloh down to Alcorn County. Sure seems early to me but this year has been weird on everything.
