Most are archers from way back, some start with a crossbow and some still use both and then again some of us just can't pull our compounds anymore. It's all good!:)

I think in most cases it is a progression,I started with a stick bow when I was a teenager then to the compound.
However a little over two years ago ,because of a hunting accident involving a freshly arrowed Doe, a large sharp blade and my left thumb.I had to go to a crossbow to continue my love of archery hunting.
Had I known how much fun the crossbow would be,I would have taken up the crossbow much sooner.

I started out  shooting a recurve over 45 years ago then went to a compound. Do to a traffic accident, (being creamed by a drunk driver) I have now graduated to a crossbow.

I started with guns, graduated to crossbows (going into my 17th year) and just last year I added my first longbow to the mix - my second custom longbow should be completed in February!

I'll hunt with anything legal to hunt with firearms (modern and muzzleloading) bows (right and left handed) crossbows, etc.  You get the idea.  So far the shoulders are okay, it's just the left leg after falling out of the tree last year.  Hopefully, I'll be walking soon.

I always shoot with fire arms. Then bought a crossbow and started to hunt with it. It is like shooting a rifle but that is where similarities end. I like to try bow shooting, but i can't do all. Enough for me at the moment.

I have hunted with a compound many years and love what it is all about in the field. I then switched to crossbows this year, it turned out to be a natural switch, so many things are still just archery hunting and the crossbow design allows a hunter to still hunt with a bow.:D

The xbow is just another wonderful toy to add to my arsenal. Been hunting with a vertical bow since 1963. Shot a tenpoint xbow my son has and fell in love with it. Had to have one. Three deer this year with it. Still may pick up the old Matthews on occasion, but I love the xbow. My son has been trying to get me to go to black powder but now that I have an HLX I doubt I will go that route. I love using an arrow... :D

Started with a compound in 1995.  Hunted with them for 11 years and loved it...then...in 2006...woke up with a pinched nerve caused by herniated discs in my neck....thanks to full inclusion this year in NJ...am hunting in the fall and winter bow seasons...someday...if they find a way to fix my neck without surgery and fusions....will pick up the compound again

started with a bear whitetail 2. hunted with it for years, until hurt and disabled. had both of my knees replaced a couple years ago. now i need surgey on both of my sholders, but trying to put it off as long as i can. i have had my share of surgeries already. a total of 8 on just my 2 knees. but i always can look around a can see or find someone in worse shape than i am. thats why i can still feel blessed. my son got me a xbow for christmas 2 years ago with help -money wise- from my wife. it has been great getting back out hunting even if it has to be with a xbow.

I compare long bow, to compound bow,to cross bow, all to fishing.
The long bow of fishing would be similar to fly fishing.  It takes more time and practice and does effectively catch fish.
The compound bow of fishing would be the open bale reel and rod. Easier to control and a little less effort to become proficient, and catches fish.
The crossbow of fishing would be the old faithful pushbutton reel and rod.  Takes very little practice is easy to use catches fish and is a lot of fun.
It doesn't matter just enjoy and take a kid.:D

the reason behind this question was that Texas legalized xbows in the "archery only season" for anybody this past season, it had been legal to hunt with in the "general season" for as long as i can remember, so i was thinking that this would be a great addition to my archery season, cept i don't know squat about them.
