1957-late 1980s: flat bow then recurve

1990- 2010: recurve, compound,x-bow and smokeless MLer 1999 -current.

The x-bow is easier to shoot than the compound but has no more range, IMO. Both can shoot accurately at very long range but yardage measurement/trajectory reduces hunting range significantly for both. Any allegations made against x-bow hunting alleging greater range potential by   "compound" shooter(s) come from someone(s) who needs to learn to shoot better or at least see what really can be done with a compound. The recurve - that's a different story. 100 yd recurve shooting at game is possible but by the very few( one Olympic shooter I know   and Ben Pearson - I've seen him do it, not at game but very small moving tgts).

Crossbows need to go between throwing rocks and BB-Guns

That was my weapons progression from about 4 years old.  At about 5 or 6 years old, I snuck outside early one morning with my ole man's Daisy Red Rider BB gun and got my first kill ... on a bird.   They only made crossbow legal around here last year ... or trust me ... they would have been my "weapon of choice" a lot sooner.  :willy_nilly:
