The use of Links.
Lately we at Crossbow Nation have been trying to come up with a policy on linking to other sites. We tried not allowing any links and soon realized that this simply would not work. What we are trying to accomplish by enforcing a linking policy is to keep content on the Crossbow Nation site. In the past, we have seen such links to YouTube that had inappropriate content and links to other forums that end up in an abundance of un-welcomed guests. Both are things that we just don't need here at CN. We now realized that in certain situations, a link to another site may be the only way to relay information effectively. So we will be allowing links, but in the end it is up to the Administrators, and or Moderators discretion as to the value of the content supplied by the link. Furthermore, linking to, or plugging your favorite dealer will not be allowed unless they take part in the Crossbow Nation advertising programs.
Rule#
6. Linking - Links to manufacturers and personal pages will be tolerated.
You may not link to any direct competitor of CrossbowNation.com or link to
just advertise a product or service. Furthermore, linking to or plugging
your favorite dealer is not allowed unless they take part in the Crossbow
Nation advertising program. We reserve the right to delete any link for any reason

Sounds fair to me, most of the other forums have the same policy...

Sounds like a reference to trolls who go site to site and start trouble (arguements/slander) or post inappropriate stuff like porn and other things like that. When you get people like those mentioned running amuck in a site such as this one, it's darn near impossible to keep it a "family friendly" sort of atmosphere. While my wife and oldest daughter to not come onto CN (because they don't hunt), my 3 y/o son tends to sit with me at the computer at home and look at the screen. If crappy content was on here, then I wouldn't feel too comfortable with him veiwing certain things. I'm sure that there are others here who feel the same way.
Why is there enough religion in the world to incite wars and hatred, but not enough to enstill peace and tolerance?

Well explained.  Thanks.

No problem sir. I am a moderator at a couple of other sites that I am a member of, so I'm used to dealing with the same concerns. Can't tell ya how many people I have banned for inappropriate behavior/content. On one of the sites I moderate at, the IT guy got tired of having to deal with the spam bots that bombard you with all kinds of pop-ups or other materials, so he made a prompt when you log in to make you answer one or two simple questions. Spam bots are unable to think and that alone has cut out 90% of the problems there, the rest has been handled by the moderators/admins.

I posted a link in the favorite turkey calls thread and the moderator was very polite in his explination and removed it for me.
Thanks for the reminder.

Just a quick question, I just happened onto this site and like it and its content, I also am on a large hunting site in B.C. And am sure the other crossbow guys would love to find this site as well. Would there be any issues with promoting this site there as long as it fits within their guidelines. The more the we can spread the word the better is my opinion.

As long as it doesn't break the other sites rules, go right ahead.

Has anyone in the IT world ever thought about a rating system for sites??  I know I'm on a couple of other hunting sites that I feel are very hunter/family oriented (or I wouldn't be a member of them!) that I wouldn't have a qualm about linking to, but if there was some system or list for IT people/Mods to reference that let a link go through without them having to monitor or check on it, wouldn't that make "things" easier...just saying!

OR maybe there already is something like that??? I'm pretty much not a computer person...
