This Sunday is looking good to shoot some 3D archery. I made my own crossbow string and I want to see how it holds up. I enjoyed making the string and it was a lot cheaper to. I enjoy 3D archery and it's a lot of fun for me. :D

I love 3D too.  Maybe one day we'll get to shoot with each other.

I shot today and it was a great day to shoot. I shot a 268 for the first 3D shoot this year. :hurray: I was over estimating on some of the targets. It was still a fun day. :) There's a another shoot next Sunday and I hope the weather holds up. Crossbows are a lot more fun to shoot for me.

It's a 100# crossbow that I put together. :D I shoot 315gr. arrows. The arrows are very easy to pull out of the targets. :hurray:I only shoot a crossbow.

I shot my best score ever with the crossbow today. :D I shot a 291. It was a great day to shoot there was no wind. :D I got a 5 on the Elk that's 2 weeks that I got a 5 on that target. ;) Next week is a 40 target course. That Tasco scope is the perfect scope for my crossbow setup for 3D archery.

My guess is that the clubs you are looking at are suffering from ignorance. The ASA now allows crossbows. You aren't competing against shooters with vertical bows. Only against other crossbows.

PA probably also doesn't allow just anyone to hunt with crossbows. Thankfully Texas has opened the door. There are still people who are against it, but they aren't trying to pull a bow with a torn up rotator cuff. Since I walk on two legs and my two arms aren't visibly distorted I doubt I would be "handicapped" by most people's estimate, but my days of pulling a vertical bow have ended.

It's crossbow or I am just a spectator at the 3d shoots where I am a club officer.

Thanks from Texas.pa does allow hunting with crossbows.but the clubs I use to shoot at say the crossbows destroy there targets.

You have to admit targets are VERY expensive and some higher end performance crossbows have LOTS of perpetration which in turns wear down foam targets faster. That being said I would like to see WAY more 3D crossbow participation.

I was wondering if you showed up with a crossbow at a 3d shoot if you would shoot along with the guys with compounds, or if there is a xbow only class? I guess some clubs will be different than others.

To the best of my knowledge, there is  a seperate crossbow class. I am no expert though.

The ASA rules have a separate class for crossbows. The class has only an effect on handing out the awards. Equipment/shooter classes are segregated. You don't want the guys with the high-dollar, extra fancy equipment taking the prizes assigned to the guys shooting their real hunting bows.

That said both compound bowhunters and crossbow shoot from the same stake color, maximum range of 40 yards. Remember that you will face unknown actual ranges and no one is allowed a range finder and are prohibited from discussing the distances they estimate.

I can't tell you if the club you might chance to attend accepts crossbows. That's up to the individual club, but since both IBO and ASA sanction crossbows at their major events there is no conflict with the governing bodies. Both have very similar rules for the class.

All,
IBO, and ASA have a seperate Crossbow Division.  The rules between the (2) organizations are different.
The main thing in the IBO is arrow weight vs arrow speed.  In the ASA, the speed limit is 330 fps with a 3% variance due to difference in chonographs.  of cource there are other rules, and stipulations too, but those are the main differences between the (2) organizations.

Thanks,
Hoss
