but I was lying in the bed this morning (3:00 am) thinking bout shooting vertical bows compared to crossbows. All the years I hunted with traditional equipment and mordern compounds, I always stood up to take the shot and of course shot field rounds and 3D tournaments.....standing up. We shoot vertical bows standing up:) because it just makes sense to do so. IMO shooting a vertical bow  of any type sitting down never felt natural to me and I guess most folks would agree.

On the other hand:)....shooting  a crossbow for hunting, I always take the shot sitting down resting my left elbow on my thigh or side because it just makes sense to me to do so. Standing up holding between 8 to 10 lbs of dead weight out in front of me with no means of supporting my left elbow surely negativley affects my accuracy. So, why not shoot crossbow 3D shoots sitting on a small floding chair or stool. We could call it the stool division:p

First of all, I'd like to go on record as having never "stood up to take a shot" while hunting with my verticals. I've always practiced standing, sitting, and kneeling. When I practice, I try to simulate various hunting senerios, just as many pratice from elevated stands.

That said, I try to do the same thing with my crossbow. Sure, there are positions that I prefer to shoot from more than others, but it's been my experience that hunting doesn't always afford you the opportunity to situate yourself in an optimal position.

Good luck with your new "Division".

I like that idea Moon. :D I hunt out of a tree stand at the club that I belong too and I'm sitting when hunting. When I shoot 3D archery I have to shoot standing. :D Sign me up.

I posted it tongue in cheek but I do believe sitting down makes more sense shooting a crossbow..................simply because I can't hold the darn heavy thing still in off hand position.

Well as of late I HAVE been in a few peeing contests and honestly I feel soiled. lol

The trap league that I was in has an informal shoot where everyone shoots sitting down.

It's just a little different. :D

If you ever go to a trap shooting school, you'll shoot a lot sitting on a stool. It teaches you to move from the hips, which is important when shooting trap.

I hear 'ya on being difficult to hold steady off-hand. As age sneaks up on me, I find that I've got too much coffee and too many cigarettes in my history to hold as steady as I used to. Anything in the rules that says you can't use a mono-pod?

I alway shot off of a 5 gallon bucket with my vertical bow so I was set with the crossbow in the sitting position.Only thing I have to watch is that I don't "Kick The Bucket"while I'am hunting.

The first deer I shoot was standing in my tree stand holding up my crossbow, I guess you  call it fee hand, which felt like a good 20 minutes holding up the bow, probably wasn't though. I was standing up to keep my body tight to the tree. The last two deer I shot I was sitting on the ground with my back to a tree and using my nee for support.

But to keep with the realm of taking a leak, that first deer I shot was going to pass buy well outside my rang but he stopped about 60 yards out. Tail flipped up why?   Because that is were I took a leek a hour or two before. Then that 10 point buck walked straight in to me and presented the perfect shot. What luck!!!!

for sit down shooting and when a buck suddenly shows himself at 20 yards for example, it's nice not having to stand up to take the shot.

I practise off a bench for best accuracy and I find when hunting and shooting off my
cabela's gobbler chair I can rest both elbows on my knees and have a very solid rest.
As far as a peeing contest I can probably beat you all as I take lasix, as this helps get rid of excess water in my system . Yes this is Dr. prescribed. I know I could shoot 3D alot better off my chair.
