Dear Mississippians,

IMMEDIATE ACTION:

Public Notice of Intent, W12 3174(I), has been filed in the Mississippi Secretary of States office by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) that would allow the use of crossbows by all hunters during the early archery season in Mississippi Wildlife Management Areas (WMA).

This is the most important move towards full crossbow inclusion, by all hunters and in all seasons in Mississippi, that we have ever had and this Letter of Intent is internal to the MDWFP and does not require legislative approval.

This Letter of Intent accomplishes two things:
(1) It defines Archery Equipment as including crossbows.
(2) It allows the use of crossbows, in not only the gun and primitive weapons seasons, but it also allows crossbows in the early archery season – Thus, Full Crossbow Inclusion, In All Seasons, By All Hunters and In All Wildlife Management Areas.

You can be assured that those that are against crossbow use, by all hunters in Mississippi and in all seasons, have already launched their campaign against this proposal.

This matter will be taken up at the next meeting of the MDWFP Commission where the decision will be made to either implement or not to implement.

The MDWFP has requested public comment. Now is the time for you to make your voice heard. You should act as soon as possible.

The volume of responses is critical. Now is the time for you to act and to also ask of your family and friends to voice their support.

The MDWFP has requested that letters voicing support to be sent as soon as possible.

Letters of support should be sent to:
MDWFP
1505 Eastover Drive
Jackson, MS 39211

E-mail messages of support should be sent to:
executive@mdwfp.state.ms.us

Best Regards,
Wayne King, Interim Vice-Chairman

I just seen this post!! I hope you guys and gals in Mississippi go get them!! Most youngsters do not want to shoot a crossbow because it is to heavy. Most of us 50 and older do not want to shoot a vertical bow because we are either hurt, or to weak, Crossbows are definitely the answer for us over our prime!! Good luck guys/gals!! Zrt.

Zrt,

As more and more states are allowing for full crossbow inclusion, the crossbow manufactures have taken notice of what you wrote about young people and weight.

Excalibur has known this for years; all their crossbows weigh in the 6 lb. range and one model even weighs less than 6 lbs. This year, Horton and TenPoint have come out with two outstanding and full-featured crossbows in the 6 lb. range.

I am of the opinion that in the next year or so that we will be seeing more and more of these lighter weight and full-featured crossbows on the market because that is where the future volume of sales and profits will be.

Lighter weight will be good for us old folks also.

but missippi already allows the use of crossbows for the elderly and disabled, and it isnt hard at all to get a disabled permit, just need one doctor to sign off on it.

It would appear from this and earlier post that it is your opinion that only people who are very old or disabled should be allowed to use Crossbows.

Why shouldn't the use of crossbows be legal in any archery season, therefore anyone who chooses to use this form of archery be allowed to do so?

I have never seen a label on any crossbow that advises, for use only by old and disabled persons.

i only ask one thing, never assume and that is what you are doing, in the post i was quoting it  said "Most of us 50 and older do not want to shoot a vertical bow because we are either hurt, or to weak," and i was letting him know that elderly and handicapped or "hurt"  can already use crossbows doing the archery season. now where in any of my posts have i went yay or nay so please keep youur assumptions to your self. i was just clarifying because i have had a bunch of ederly and handicappedi know pushing for this bc they were misinformed as to they couldnt use one when infact they already can. there was no reason for you to jump the gun and start bashing on me as if i was a crossbow hater when infact im not. so please pull your last idiotic and misinformered remark before you ever repost again and waste my time. and have a nice day too
