This is a BIG step in the RIGHT direction.  Thanks to all that helped to get this done.  This will help in the efforts to achieve full inclusion in the general archery season.  It was the right thing to do.

After all the baloney and bickering on the old MWF&P crossbow forums, its good that we can now begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

I ditto everything that Mike said.  Thanks to all you guys working so hard to see that this coming season will be the start of a new movement towards eventually including crossbows into Archery season for everyone.  This is definitely a giant step for promoting another hunting tool.  I am so excited.

May 19, 2010 - The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP) Commissioners voted to approve Public Notice of Intent Number W12 3174(I). This approval applies to all Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) in the State, unless otherwise stated in individual WMA regulations.

The legal definition changes include:

Primitive Weapons: Primitive weapons are those defined by Public Notice LE-2280 and Archery Equipment.

Archery Equipment: Longbows, recurves, compounds, and crossbows are legal archery equipment.

I think one of the biggest factors in getting crossbows allowed in MS is the fact that LA allows all hunters to use crossbows now and LA and MS compete with each other on drawing licensed hunters. When MS went to thje use of singleshot rifles in 38 or larger caliber for primitive weapons season-[-LA followed suit and allows the use of these singleshot cartridge firears for primitive weapons season. That being said--MS has more rural area and woods to hunt on and a bigger deer population than LA. There are only a few small to medium "big cities" in MS .
