Dave, you should go there with your crossbow and hunt before rifle season.  By then they will be run out of the country by bear hunters.

As to taxidermy costs, I was starting out at $1200.00 for a full body mount, but I talked to a guy yesterday who got a quote of $2800.00 to $3800.00.  I was charging $400.00 to $500.00 for a shoulder mount, but everyone one else I knew was higher.  I felt sorry for the poor boys and as a result stayed a poor boy myself.

If you are just wanting someone to skin it out and quarter it, expect to pay a couple hundred dollars at least for a professional.  I wouldn't touch one for less than that.  But I'm not doing it anymore, and I don't have a desire to do it anymore, not even for myself now.  Health issues just make it way too hard to fool with.

Hey buddy thanks, if I shoot a bear I will need guidance. I'll do all the work but would you be willing to guide me through process.

I'm doing okay although this body I am in isn't doing so hot. But the Lord is giving me a new one, so why worry about it?

I am getting ready to go back to the steel pig. I am scheduled to come back the day before the season starts! Can't wait! It looks like I may be in a few days early though. I got everything done at my hunting club last week. Plowed and planted and I had a couple of thunder storms move through that dropped a little bit of rain. I sure hope it was enough to get the seeds going!

Don't you dare mention the "H" word :o .  I'm scheduled to go to Orange Beach next week to work on my tan before hunting season. We don't need an "H" blowing through there next week.  I thought if I could get a good tan, I'd be camoed in the woods and look like a tree.  Stay safe.  Dee

Been in the stand 2 evening in a row for 2 hours each and had a number of shot opportunities but I have not had the one I wanted. There is this nice lil yearling and a doe I am waiting for right now. A few bucks have come in but nothing to write home about.

I have more doe's then you can imagine in the area but there are the elected ones I want at appointed times during the hunting season I take them.  I will also be removing a big nanny with 3 youngens I think two are young bucks which I will let grow.  Take the nanny and the young bucks will remain in the area for years.

Very interesting evening with a big doe. I decided to sit on the back porch steps with railing and some back drop. A big doe came into the wooded area in the back. Then the Doctor walked out and I whispered hi. He went back in and then it started. The doe was very confused. She obveously knew the doctor smell and walked up to the over hand 10 ' away and sniffed and sniffed. then the wind changed and she cought my scent. I was 1st under the big porch and she walk very close to the edge of the porch but found nothing. She keep walking back and forth at one point she was 5' from me and looking right at me but I am stealth LOL She finally figured out that there was another scent there that was not the doc. and bolted. I think she had a little da-ja-vo LOL

Congratulations Bowman

yesterday afternoon I went on a little scouting mission and walked along  a field of high grasses and heard some grunting like a buck getting up  and waited then I saw antler 15 yards away and as he moved so did I.  he  Got to a small wilt pear tree and stopped. I managed to get a pic of  him then he decided to leave and 3 other bucks hiding in the grass  followed. The home owner showed me a pic of a really nice 10 point she  took while he was laying under the apple. Tree he will look good on the  wall.

He is the pic of the little 8 looks farther then he really is. I think he is about 20 yards.THe 2nd pic is the larger of the 2.

OK do caged Raccoons count. One of my back yard home owners called and said he has one in a trap and wants me to kill it and depose of it. , I could just take it out of there and let it go somewhere. , Just got back from dispatching him. I will put the head in the beatles later. No points for a real cage hunt.

Hey Dave, I was looking into hog hunts a several years ago and found this outfitter in Arkansas that offered them pretty cheap.  Seems like it was $200.00 with no trophy fees.  So I called them and they guaranteed me a shot at a  hog.  I asked them what weapons could I use and they said I was allowed to only use a pistol and it was one that they furnished.  They would not offer me any information unless I asked specific questions.  Finally I got him to tell me that they put a hog in a small cage, give you a pistol, open the cage and when the hog runs out you shoot it with the pistol they give you.   Makes me think about those games you play at the gypsy carnivals.  I bet the pistol had a bent barrel.
