Last year I had advanced rotator cuff surgery and radical relocation surgery of the ulnar nerve on the right shoulder.
Well, this year the left shoulder took a dump.
I was told, in definite terms by my Doc at Boise Orthopedic,"You do this again and your finished riding off-road, or anything else, so your done with compound bows".
So, here I am, with a pending disabled exemption to hunt during archery season with a crossbow for next year.
I am looking to get an x-bow that will not drown the hunting budget, and my wife won't drown me.
I'll look into whatever is suggested but I don't need the fastest and hottest thing out there.
Thanks ahead of time.

Welcome to the Nation first of all. Now as to bow's I'm sure you'll hear a bunch of suggestions. First thing I'd do is go to a place that sells crossbows (Cabela's, Bass Pro Shop, Gander Mountain or the like) that will actually let you shoot them. Then try everything in your price range (which the folks here need to have an idea of to give you suggestions also) and see what fit's you best. Sort of like that compound of yours, you probably tried a lot of them until you got one in your hands that just felt right. There ya go, your started. If you need to have a crank device or a rope cocker make sure you have the one that will work with the bow your looking to purchase. Cranking devices normally add between 75-150 dollars to the price of the bow. FYI. GOOD LUCK and let us know what you purchase.

Okay, thanks for the information. Cabela's in Boise did have a couple on the rack. I did ask about them, but there seemed to be only one guy who had any knowledge of them at all. They have not really caught on here in Idaho it seems as yet.
I am leaning more towards a recurve crossbow for some reason.
Also, it has to have open sights to use during archery season here.
As it is so late into the 2010 season, I will have at least 6 months to figure out what I want before the 2011 season prep starts.
Thanks to you folks who responded.
