Howdy Hogbane.

As far as I know of, when crossbows passed in Texas, Grayson county is the only county crossbows are not legal during deer archery season. Im sure it was a pay off to exclude Grayson county, but we got it done and if something changed, let us know and we'll take care of it. Now, if you are talking about hunting public land, if it's Texas owned, let me know. If its Federal land, that is a different deal. A Washington DC deal. You'll have to talk to the Chief Park Ranger and in person is best, and find out what the story is. If it's legal within the state, the Federal land should also be opened thru the chief ranger. If the chief isn't willing to change the rules, Washington DC is your next stop to go over thier head, but it may take a few years of red tape to fix it.

Yes, if they were allowed to have guns in the UK, they wouldn't have to do this with the SPORTING GOODS they are allowed to have. I agree, it was suicide by cop. There's not much hunting there either. Scotland is about as close as they get but you have to have deep pockets. Hunting is for the rich. Guns are illegal.

FYI, when you travel abroad with guns, you have to register them and get a permit issued, but bows of any sort are considered Sporting goods so no need for a firearms permit. Some airports do not let you pass thru them if you have a gun on board, even if it's for a layover.

Isn't it great to be an American hunter/gun owner, even though we have issues within the political arena pertaining to guns?

We hunt them after dark of course, when they move. What we do is set a steel post and a wire that would attach a carcass because they chew through rope easily. Set it up 20 yards from your sitting spot that;s downwind and best to back up to something where they can't circle you and catch your wind. If you don't have a carcass, go to your local taxidermist or butcher shop and ask them for one or at least a heavy bone or rib cage. Let the meat sit out a few days and age before you expect to see any coyotes coming to it. THey don't seem to like fresh meat.
SPECIALIZED uses tuna with holes punctured in the cans to leak the liquid out and he ties them to a low hanging tree limb. The best thing I can add, is just go experiment now that you have a starting point and see what works best for you and in your area. Patience is so necessary. Good luck and post pictures of your set up and your harvests!
