Special Broadheads for Crossbow

22 May 2012 - 01:11 PM

I was flipping through the 2012 MUZZY catalog and saw the new CROSSKILL broadhead especially made for crossbows. Has anyone tried them yet? What's your experience? They are supposed to be more accurate for crossbows but I haven't tried them yet since they come in a 3 blade 125 gr or a 4 blade 150 gr.

Hunting Together with Crossbows

21 May 2012 - 11:14 AM

This was too good to not share. Let me go back in the crossbownation history first. 4 years ago when this site began, I invited some of the members of this forum to come to Texas for a Hog hunt. One of the best things to come from any hunt is when it's documented with photos. I can see a hundred years from now, some hunters looking at our photos and discussing the old days and how we did it back then and of course, the various crossbow models and how much they changed over time.

After that hunt, we started our own hunting club in Texas and each year, we take a group photo with our crossbows. Already after a few years, it is awesome to look back and see the changes in equipment and people who were there.

So this post is about awareness of the importance of taking photos so you can do the same thing to add to our history of crossbow hunting and those people who hunted with them. Afterall, what is left after those times have past if there is no documentation of the events?

Anytime you get a new toy, the first thing you do is research right? Well if you can do this in your neck of the woods, there will be something to see when the future looks back at what, where and when crossbows were hunted with.

Look at how they have changed just over the past few years. Just think what it will look like in 10, 20, or 30 more years? :)

Talked to SPECIALIZED today

10 May 2012 - 08:06 PM

Just wanted to let ya'll know I talked to SPECIALIZED a few minutes ago on the phone and he thinks he just might live another day to go hunting. LOL! I told him the TCHC got a lease for him to hunt, so he needs to get better soon and come help do some hog removal. They moved him to a cardiac rehab center and he is doing okay he said. He did say the food was much better there than the other hospital. His spirits are good and he's looking forward to getting online maybe in a few days and catching up. He still has a way to go before he can go home, so keep him and Mrs. Specialized in your prayers until then. He said to say hello to everyone and thank you so much for the thoughts and prayers. I have to say, our dear friend is one tough man. A very SPECIAL man he is!

TCHC CLUB NEWS

10 May 2012 - 07:14 PM

For those of you who have been patiently waiting, We finally recieved some great news. The Texas Crossbow Hunters Club has acquired it's own hunting lease. Whew Hew! The lease excludes deer and exotics. It does include as many Hogs, coyotes, Bobcats, Mountain lions, coons, opossums, rattle snakes, chupacabras, etc.

There will be some cost to the club, so in turn, we will need to get together and discuss what kind of token payment members will donate towards the lease when they hunt it in order to keep it running properly. It can't be 100% free. We will have all kinds of people joining the club for $20.00 and take advantage.

We will be setting up and maintaining at least 10 corn feeders for members to hunt and they do take corn. So start thinking about what we should discuss concerning this when the time comes, or post any ideas if you like. Corn is going for @ $10.25 per 50 pounds right now. Each feeder should use about 50 pounds per 10 days. 10 feeders X 200 lbs per month. Of course it will be arrow only. We will hold at least one one hunt per month so everyone has an opportunity to take advantage. If everything goes well, we will have the option to lease it for another year after we complete this first year, so to insure this, every hunt will have an escort of at least one of the founding members.

Folks, this is our opening to be able and lease more properties around the state so all members always have a place to hunt. We need to be sure we hold the best reputation possible so we can have other offerings for lands to hunt. The lease for this year will cost the club 4 corn feeders, of a special design and Blackboardown has graciously offered to build them and the club will reimburse him for the materials and the feeder/timer boxes we purchase. Thank you so much BBD! More details on the TCHC site. This is a dream come true!
