Daggone, where is everybody?

07 February 2012 - 08:39 PM

Been checking in all day but nothing much going on here.  Figured I'd throw a pebble in the pond and make a ripple.

So, anything exciting going on with anybody?  I've had lots of excitement today.  Every time I eat I end up running outside to barf.  I bet you wanted to know that, huh?  HA!  Anyway, that has been going on for three days now.  I might be skinny the next time I throw a picture up here.

Lacey came by for a visit this evening.  She moved out about a month ago.  She knows everything now, lol.

Got our first goose egg today.  Now, THAT was exciting.  The goose laid it under the back porch this morning.  We went out town to get some chicken feed and when we got back it was ON the porch in front of the door.  Evidently Cody, our German Shepherd, didn't like it being in his favorite hangout, so he moved it.  It didn't even have a scratch on it.  Isn't that the dangedest thing?

Well, I think I'll go do some reading.  I had Carol make a pot of coffee.  I don't even like the stuff that much.  The diet Coke didn't like it in my stomach; maybe I can keep the coffee down.

Anyway, I don't have a lot to tell, but I just figured I'd chat at my friends for a minute.  I hope you all are having a great day, and if there is any excitement going on, well, I hope it is a lot better than mine.  Sometimes no excitement at all is the best though.  :)

Maad was a few days late, but next time I'll know.

I was frying something up in the pan last week and some grease got on my finger burning the skin right off.  Then a day or so later I got an email from Maad telling me that egg whites are a natural remedy for burns.  It eases the pain and generates regrowth.  And there I was with ten dozen eggs sitting on the counter!  Ah, but next time me or someone gets burned I'll know what to do.

Thanks for the tip, Maad.  :)

Homemade Grips For My .45

03 February 2012 - 11:05 PM

I got a new Remington R1 Enhanced 1911 for Christmas (Merry Christmas to me!) and I really like it.  The trigger  feels pretty good and it is plenty accurate.  It even has an adjustable rear sight.  The grips that came on it, however, are deeply knurled and hard on my hands.  So I whittled a new set out of some basswood I had on hand, sanded it smooth,  wood burned the "color" into it and put my initials.  Not sure how well the basswood will hold up over time (I'm rough on my equipment) but it sure feels good.  And I think it looks pretty good even if I did make them.  I only took a picture of one side.  The other side is the same except instead of initials I put a "smiley face" with an eye patch and one arm sticking out with a pistol in its hand.  Sort of looks like Sporty87 before he's had his morning coffee.  :D

My Wife Made Me a Quilt

Carol just got done with this the other evening.  I think she did a great job and had to show if off.  It goes good with my two duck pillows, lol.

Sleepless in Virginia

02 January 2012 - 08:08 AM

Dear Abby,
I can't sleep.  What should I do?

Dear Sleepless,
Sounds like a personal problem to me.

Whoo boy.  I've been up all night.  I can't hardly sleep anymore.  I tried a sleeping pill the other night and it didn't work.  Laid down last night around 2 AM and laid there until 4:30 when my wife got up to go to work.  I laid back down after she left and the nerves between my shoulder blades began to ache, and what a weird indescribable feeling it is.  Just terrible.  So, I took some pain pills and started reading a book.

When it got day light I went out and let out the birds, fed and watered them.  And boy is it cold out there!  Down in the teens and the wind is howling.  Had to bust the ice out of the water pans.  I let the geese out and they were honking like mad.  I bend down in front of them and they run up to me and bob their heads and shriek and honk telling me all about something or another.  I honk back and they flap their wings and run around in a circle.  They are funny.  Especially if they catch Ben the Golden Retriever or one of the other dogs not looking.  They will sneak up behind them and yank on their hair.  Tickles the crap out of me.

Well, I am just sitting here wishing I could sleep.  I could absolutely not think of anything else to do so I thought I'd bother you all.  I ought to pull a dirty trick on Sporty87 and give him a call since he is an hour behind my time.  I bet he would have some real nice choice words to say!  I would call Dave Hawk, but he is on new medicine and might ride down here and shoot me, so I'll let him be.  Besides, he needs all the rest he can get the way he is putting out all those paintings lately.

I hope you all are doing well.  Don't call me.  I'm going to bed in a little bit.
