I don't watch too many hunting shows. I think most are B.S. and serve no other purpose other than to sell hunters who don't have a clue a bill of goods.
But I turned on TV today and sit down to lunch and watched All Access. They were hunting Pronghorn and Deer. Well, someone hands Craig a new xbow and he takes a few shots at the target and goes off hunting. Finally gets a Pronghorn at 15 yards and puts one right through the back, nearly a spine but a little high. Of course, that's just after he tells everyone what a great job the xbow did. After reviewing the tape, he says he just barely cut the top of the back...but if you watch the goat run off, you see it was a tad more than just some hair.
But anyway, he leaves that one and goes on to chase another one. The slip up to an edge of a field and he takes a shot at a small pronghorn buck standing at the edge. He kills it but you can't tell where he hits it.
He says it was 96 yards away! He then goes on to make a big deal about shooting at the animal 96 yards away, over and over and over! "Yeah man, ninety six freakin' yards, did ya'll see that!"
As if that wasn't enough, later on they slip up on another field after blowing a stalk on a Whitetail. A Muley comes in the field and he launches an arrow at it. Never says how far it was, but he missed and all he said was that it was "a long shot".
So, we have one wounded Antelope, one missed Muley and one dead antelope shot at 96 yards! All from a celebrity shooter who appears to have just received the bow during taping, shot a few arrows into a target and went hunting.
And we wonder why our weapon of choice gets a bad name. I've never been someone who believes in contacting sponsors, but I sure think that the xbow sponsor of that show should be contacted and told what a bad light he just put their product in. Of course, that's only if you think taking an irresponsible shot at 96 yards at an animal is "bad light".
But then again, maybe the manufacturer hopes everyone buys one of their bows so they can kill game at 96 yards!
