well here in okla we had such a extreme heat wave 55+ days over 100%s and many 110 t0 118% days with no rain for 2and 1/2 months that the natural vegatation all died( and some trees too!!) i decided to use my tractor mounted tiller and brushog and till about a 300 square ft area surrounding my feeder and tilled some lanes to the areas deer normally enter my property and broadcast some deer mix seed from wallymart clover turnip rye rapeseed oats and brassicas in those areas after i drove up and down
with my fourwheeler to make wheeltracks to hold the seed before i seeded it.
a fair amount of work but it paying off, then i used my garden tripod rotary sprinkler on the area a couple days a week at the feeder for the last 5 weeks
my feeder is only about 65 yrds from my house and about 2 weeks ago we finally got a couple decent rains and the rest of the seed came up
well the good news is im seeing more deer than ever before and they feed around the feeder for a hour to a hour and 1/2 in the morning and about 45 min before dark most days in the eve.
the bad news is the deer ate all the tops off my pumkin plants in the garden but such is life.
i set my new rhino blind out in the back yard to air out (new smell) about ten days ago and it doesnt seem to affect the deer, i have a ladder standup that i was going to use but withe the foilage dropping it kinda stands out so i wiil start out with the blind (season starts sat) and see if those deer have looked at the calendar. lol.
i covered the seed by dragging a reciever rack behind the fourwheeler with a couple of cinder blocks in it for added weight( worked like a charm.
oh yea i hand threw some fertilizer on the plot after a rain and it all looks good, i have two trail camera up and am seeing more deer than ever and ive had this place for 15 years, so the combination( drought, extreme heat ,no rain feeder and the seeding ) all working together ill be shocked if i dont take 2 or 3 with the crossbow this season.
and ive got less than 30 bucks in the planting including gas and diesel!!!!
i had my feeder set for 3 seconds twice a day at 715 am and 430 pm till a couple weeks ago on high spinner settings and kicked them up to 5 seconds then.
my thinking is that they will eat whats on the ground while they are there in the daylight and lead them to frequent the area during shooting light..
the area strip towards the front i also put out some deer cocaine and my camera has found that they use that area (more secluded) all hours of the day>
so ive got 2 hunting spots at opposite ends of my 10 acres that i can switch back and forth to.
i wont gun hunt here do tho the close proximity of neighbors and itsspretty cool to look out my sons bedroom window and see some deer, and squirrels and coons.
ill try to post a couple pics of the area outside the bedroom well thats what i did i hope it helps you guys on a small piece of ground

deer lease issues

well crap
i was checking with the rancher that i have my deer lease with to see if he had planted his fields (over-seeds with rye and winter wheat) and if it was ok for us to come down this weekend to set up our feeders.
well he was finishing up the planting BUT do to the extreme temps and lack of rain he was going to have to have his cows on the 150 acre lease the rest of the year.( he usually moves them to another 40 acre property for the fall) he said he did not have a choice this year due to the drought only a little over a inch of rain since may!!!!!
he said he wouldnt mind use hunting with his cows on the property which i appreciate but am concerned on the impact on not only our hunting, but how the would affect or corn feeders(rubbingon them or knocking them over and of course eating the scattered corn that we pay pretty dearly for.
any imput on any of you that have had similar experiances would be appreciated tp0 help us make up our minds since this is a fair expensive endeavor
when you consider the cost of the lease, gas to set up the feeders and of course the corn too.!!!
im kinda perplexed and would love to hear some real life experiences
thanks
BUMMED OUT and dont know what to do>>>>
