What we do is only put out a peice of a bale at a time. Then, we throw whole bales out but leave them whole. You have to watch the wire though once the bale starts getting loose. For Texans, this is the very best thing for Axis deer.
Oh yea, Alfalfa is also a medicinal plant. It's the only thing that contains the prized vitamin K which is great for arthritis and other ailments. Game ranches feed it to sick or hurt animals.

Keep them separate and take them to the OTHER location as the deer seem to be inquisitive as to the strange poop
It works anytime of year.

I guess with age I'm beginning to revert back to my old ways. Scout hard, pattern the deer and remain as scent free as I can. I don't use "cover scents" or "lures" much anymore.
I find the deer and set up along their travel routes. I want them to be totally unaware that I'm anywhere around. One minute they're strolling through the woods peacefully and the next minute "THWACK!". It's all over but the cryin'
Of course, the very best buck lure ever created is a HOT Doe! Now that's the kind of deer lure I like

On another vein, (before I bust one) I wore my fawn and doe bleat call out. Just remembered about it by reading the above posts. Thanks for mentioning it. I always have to make a list of things that I forgot when I am in camp. . .and then I usually forget what I did with the list:eek:.
I couldn't agree more!
