It's pathetic how far some archers will go to hate crossbows and those who use them. Last season my son and I came upon a guy in a wheelchair being terrorized by such a jerk. The poor guy in the wheelchair had been bowhunting alone along an access road in a local wildlife area. His buddy was off somewhere else. The guy ranting was twice the disabled guys size and half his age. The poor guy in the chair looked terrorized and was obviously at the loudmouth bullies mercy. I came up to them in time to hear the one guy screaming that he was half a mind to beat the crippled guy up and take his crossbow. My son was a couple minutes behind me coming up the road but still out of sight. The guys attitude went over with me like a lead brick! I got the jerks attention, pointed to my crossbow, and asked if he'd like to try and take mine. Amazing how many shades of red a person can turn. He started to challenge me, I'm a disabled Vietnam Vet and was 56 at the time, untill my son rounded the curve into sight with fire in his eyes. My son offered to feed the guy his bow sideways in the reverse order of digestion! Followed by his arrows point first! Lol That made him turn from red to a very sick shade of white. My son is a Certified Executive Bodyguard and looks every bit of the job. We informed the jerk that he'd be reported to the ranger, who happens to be a friend of ours, and that if we ever heard of him threatoning anyone else it likely would be the last time he ever did! With that my son sent him scooting down the road with his tail between his legs. We then escorted the guy in the wheelchair back to his buddies truck and waited till his buddy showed up. I just can't believe how ignorant some people can be. A year later and I still get mad thinking about it.

i am mad just reading the post, hope that never happens to me. anyway good job sticking up for the guy, i would have done the same.

That goes to show that there are a few hunters out there that have no respect for other hunters and their condition that there in and why they must hunt with a crossbow to be able to be in the woods. I have no respect for these type of hunters. Glad to know that you and your son set him straight and on his way. Tell your son I said thanks to him also.

i'm in a chair myself. i'm a quadriplegic. i can only hope i come across someone like him one day. i'm still not afraid to stand up for my rights and other xbow users. the best weapon we can arm ourselves with is knowledge! oh and by the way i can still shoot lights out, lol. i know i could sip on my trigger faster than he could pull his bow.

There are more than a few bodies walking around without a mind out there. It is good that you were in that place. I believe that God placed you there for that reason. Both my wife and I have had similar experiences. Fortunately God always had our backs. The worst that happened was that one genius came back after dark and destroyed the blind that the guys had made accessible for me. That took a lot of courage and brains. Thankfully he was never seen again and the fellows have made a better one for me.

Your son and you sacrificed your hunt and some time to help a brother hunter out. That demonstrates what we are all to do as spirit brothers. My sincere thanks for your service to our country and to both of you for seeing to this man's safety. I know this is what you would have done anyway but far too many just pass by on the other side. You are indeed the Hawk that watches over his world.

That's not ignorance, it's viciousness. That person has aggression issues and I would bet it isn't limited to crossbows. People like that need to be watched carefully.

I have similar aggression issues. Only mine are triggered by things like women being beat up, women crying, or somebody heckling someone in a chair. IMO, Spirithawk's son showed much more restraint than I'd been likely to have.

Thanks folks but we did nothing you all wouldn't have done. my son and I have very low tolerance levels for people like that idiot. Lscha, we are used to handling ourselves and seldom turn our backs. Guys like this guy are often spiteful cowards and you are correct in that he needs watched. The rangers are keeping an eye out for him too. I'd say that day though he was in a hurry to get home and change his drawers!

From one vet to another, Thanks to both you and your son. And as far as i'm concerned, that idiot wasn't a hunter. He don't even belong in this world. Just a, COWARD, thats all he was. Thanks again. Wish I'd been there.

Man, that burns me up. I have a friend who is paraplegic and has to hunt from his van. He was able to gain permission to go through a locked gate on National Forest to hunt on the road from his lift. He was allowed to take one person with him to open and shut the gate for him. I'm not going into all the details, but a group of guys who liked to hunt that road just walking back and forth on it gave him a hard time and he quit going in there. The road was over a mile long, so it was not like there wasn't plenty of room. Plus he went in before daylight and came out after dark, so he wasn't messing up their hunting. They just didn't like not having it all to themselves. And with miles of forest in every direction you'd think they could find somewhere to get. Maybe they were scared of the woods, but I think they were just lazy and selfish.

I just can't get over how some people can be so vindictive, mean, jealous and petty. I'm glad, Spirithawk, that you and your son were there for that guy, and I hope he doesn't let one jackass keep him from going back.

That was a truely sad life experience. Thank the Lord that you all are ok, that jerk could of shot any one of you from anger! Very proud the way you both stuck up for your fellow man! God Bless

Again, thank you folks. We just did what most of you would have. Please don't worry about us. Neither my son nor I are easy marks. I'm a Vietnam Vet and grew up in the roughest part of St. Louis and my son's a professional Certified Body Guard. I may be a disabled vet but I'm far from defenseless. Hate to brag, well kinda , but when my son takes care of buiseness it's scary how fast and efficient he is. He was personaly trained by the man who invented the SWAT Team and has had other extensive training as well. We are both trained to never take our eyes off of anyone we suspect might be a potential threat and both of us had hands on weapons the punk didn't even know we were carrying. If that jerk had had the thought to even cross his mind to point a weapon at us they'd still be sifting the dirt looking for pieces of him! As I bluntly told the guy. " You might think you're a bad a** but your are looking at two Certified US Government Aproved Bad A**s! Dang it's embaressing when a grown man, in body anyways, man wets his pants! I seriously doubt if he ever hunts the area again. The Rangers are keeping an eye out for him too. He simply isn't welcome back.

In Minnesota, that is considered hunter harassment, and is a chargeable crime. Threatening a handicapped person like that is a more serious crime here,also. Good on you, and especially your son, for taking care of that situation. If I would have seen that situation unfold, well, a can of something or another would have been opened. Disabled vets sacrificed enough in their lives, and deserve to not be treated like that. Screw the archery crowd that are anti crossbow. Enough said.

Wow that makes me wonder what I would do I dont often use a wheel chair but I have only one leg now. AS mad as i get I would of thumped him at least once before getting whooped but thats just wrong.Too bad the authorities werent close by. People underestimate the strength of handicapped individuals When I was going through rehab I got to see first hand how strong these people are My hats off to you and your son you saved that man. I am pretty sure I would have shot the crazy fool and let the courts decide my fate

The WBH had their broadhead tournament last weekend, you can be sure there were no crossbows in attendance.
