There will be hunting on sundays in North Carolina this year with xbows, Private land only. Does this mean bow, muzzleloader and rifle season, since xbows are legal during all three seasons. If anyone knows,I would like to know.

Yes, Sunday hunting on private land with bows will be legal for any seasons where bows are legal during the week. This means bow, muzzleloader, and rifle seasons for deer. It also means any other season for any other game where bows are legal weapons with the only exception being migratory game birds.

Since I'm from Wisconsin, why wouldn't you be able to hunt on Sundays during any hunting season in NC? Is this because of a long standing law that supports the Lord's Day and that's there is no hunting on Sundays? I'm curious :)

Since I'm from Wisconsin,
Enough said. :)

Yes, in 1868 the NC General Assembly passed a law prohibiting hunting with a shotgun, rifle, or pistol on Sundays. Its language was clarified in 1945, 1967, 1979, 1989, 1993, and finally in 1994.

Sunday bowhunting was never outlawed by the General Assembly, though the Wildlife Resources Commission hadn't previously allowed for it.

Two years ago, there was a concerted effort by the NC WRC to get the Sunday hunting ban repealed altogether, but they quickly realized that was an uphill climb. Instead, they decided to just pass a regulation allowing Sunday bowhunting, since that is not specifically prohibited by law.

Then, a small group of people used the legislative process to block the new Sunday bowhunting regulation, pushing it into the hands of the General Assembly this year. A law prohibiting Sunday bowhunting was proposed in the 2009 session, but it never made it out of committee. Another law was proposed specific to one county, allowing the county residents to ban Sunday hunting, and that passed the House but died in a Senate committee.

There are quite a few blue laws (including bans on the sale of alcohol on Sundays, etc.) throughout the South. Inconvenient, yes. Impossible to live with, no.

I believe the Sunday hunting law had to do with people hunting ducks on Sundays or maybe thats another law?

If the Sunday is open to archery hunting crossbows are legal.

Not all Sundays are open in the West due to seasons ending on a Saturday and starting on Mondays.

Before, I used to move stands around on Sundays. Now, I can hunt out of 'em before I move them. WOOO! WOOO! WOOO!(in my best Ric Flair impersonation). How many times in the past has the weather been perfect for bow hunting ,but you couldn't go because it was Sunday? I'm a Monday to Friday kind of worker who gets to sneak in a morning or two of hunting now & then. This gives me an extra day to enjoy time in the woods and perhaps fill my freezer at the same time. YES!

Nice to see the change of NC for Sunday hunting. I would like to see the same for the other states like Connecticut where, where so called religious laws are preventing people from full enjoyment of their freedom. For those who live in states which do not have these laws, loosing one day a week may not seem like a big handicap. When I was a resident of Connecticut, we only had a seven day deer season. If you had to work all week, then you only had one weekend to hunt. Take away Sunday and you are left with only one day a year to hunt deer. That really sucks!

No doubt! I can't imagine being limited to a week-long deer season. Ours starts in early September and runs to January 1st. My wife isn't real fond of the new Sunday hunting regulation because she likes to trail ride her horse through the woods on Sundays in the Fall. But once I explained that it was archery only, she grasped the concept a little better.

Exactly. Blue laws are still in effect in the South regarding drinking, hunting, etc..

One would think that as hard as some folks are working to have religion removed from every aspect of life, we would be able to convince the state to repeal that law. They drone on about the separation of church and state, we should demand a separation of Sunday and hunting. :P
