Alabama has now legalized crossbow scopes with magnification. I just bought my first xbow a Horton Legacy 225. I read on another forum that scopes with magnification were legal so I went to the Dept of Conservation site but could not confirm it. I called Bass Pro Shops in Birmingham and they told me that it was still illegal. I finally received an email back from Capt. Michael Bloxom who is an Enforcement Supervisor with the Al Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries who confirmed that scopes with magnification are now legal. I would have thought that Bass Pro would have known that.

Hey soshock,Welcome to crossbow nation,at this point in time I would not put a lot of faith in the big box stores where crossbows are concerned.
Most have a lot of catching up to do.But you are right, they should be aware of the regulations.Enjoy your new crossbow.

Welcome to The Nation soshock1.

Look at the last line in the section headed ARCHERY EQUIPMENT USED FOR HUNTING DEER AND TURKEY on page 22 of the 2010-2011 Alabama Hunting and Fishing Digest. It says "Sights with magnification or computational capabilities are prohibited on all bows except scopes may be used on crossbows". Funny, the Hunting and Fishing Digest is available at the Bass Pro Shop in Leeds (Birmingham). You are right, they should have know the regulation change!
I just changed my Red Dot to a scope and am in the process of zeroing it.

Send me a PM, maybe we can get together for some shooting sometime. I'm in NW Alabama.

It's amazing to me how little the people working in the sportinggoods sections of stores know about the stuff they're selling. I often find myself informing them instead of them informing me. Now and then you'll even run into anti hunters in the archery and firearms sections. Makes a person wonder what the heck management is thinking. Most likely they aren't thinking at all!

I just saw this thread.
Yes it is most definetly legal in Alabama.
I was the one who went to the Conservation Advisory Board and asked for it to be legalised.
