hello all,
i just got a vortex about a month ago and am having noconsistency in accuracy, other than the obvious things to check(scope mount, rings etc.) which i have checked and rechecked what else might be causing accuracy issues? i use a rope cocker, shoot gold tips with aluminum flat nocks, blazer vanes, brass insert and 100gr tips. boo string, sts. the bow feels great when shooting. there is not alot of vibration. just hoping to get some advice on what to look for or should i take the scope off off and disassemble the bow and start over from scratch like when i first opened the box? thanks for any ideas.....

You have all the bases covered, mark yer arrows 1-6 or 1-12. Then take #1 mark a D on one vane that stands fer down. Put that vane in arrow slot down. Shoot it several times. See if it hits same area with-in 1/2". Do each arrow like that, if they all scatter everywhere then sounds like scope would be yer trouble causer. If they all hit consistant being the #1 shot 3 times hits almost in same hole there is another factor causing the problem.

Could be arrows like vixenmaster suggested. There's an outside possibilty you might have a bad scope too. Haven't had it happen with my Excal,s, but did have it happen on a Horton that I used to have. I was having arrows going every which way. Tried everything. Ended up taking the scope off and putting on a red dot that I had in the gun cabinet. After I got it sighted in it was shooting just fine. If all else fails maybe give that a try. My 2 cents!

Check your brace height.I like to run around 1" to 1 1/4".This should help with noise when using a Boo string and sts. Also check bolts to be sure everything is tight.Good luck.Sounds like a great set up.

I was having the same type of problems with my Vortex. I found that the scope mount/ring screws kept coming loose  . Remedy-use blue loc-tite on all the screws on the scope rings solved the problem for me :D .

Sounds like it may be the scope. I had a LumiZone that started doing that about the same time into it's life. Excal replaced it. Others: Trt using only one/same arrow to make sure that different arrows aren't to blame. Check too see if vanes are glued down at ends. Make sure the bolts holding the stock to barrel are tight. If using a broadhead, try with field point.. Check limbs for cracks. Oh, yes, check to see if the plastic shims between the limbs and riser have migrated out and are hitting the vanes as they go by. Trim shims back if so.

Try your peep and pin. Should tell you if it's a scope problem. I set my pin[s] 1 7/16" above base bottom and slide them into the dovetail until they are just s thumbnail thickness shy of being flush to inside end of dovetail. should get you real close at 20, if so, the top of black post under the pin will be 'on' at 30 w/ most setups.

I shoot those same arrows w/ excellent results. I fletch w/ an AZ-EZ in rt hand helical.

so far i have only found 2 things...... that the sts rubber stoppers were not adjusted the same, about 1/16" difference so the string was hitting one stopper before the other. and the rubber stoppers that came with the sts have grooves in them and the stoppers rotate some so the string is not always in alignment with this groove. so i just received some stoppers made by norway that are flat so the string will not have to be inline with any groove/slot. weather permitting i will be out shooting tmr...jeff

the weather has not cooperated so have not been able to shoot yet. we have had rainy, windy(as high as 53mph in my area)since friday. its supposed to be dry and winds are supposed to drop to around 15mph on wednesday so shooting the bow is first on my to do list!....jeff

Doubt it's an STS problem, easy check remove the STS. The arrow is gone by the time the STS comes into play.

i did remove it and shot 10 times and the shots were alot more consistent,8 of the 10 cud be covered with a tennis ball, but this was only at 10 yards. i replaced with flat stoppers and readjusted them. thursday i will shoot further and try to tune in the sight. i am eliminating one thing at a time and the sight is next in line....jeff

looks like the sts rubber stoppers were at least part of my problem. i switched to the flat style from norway and my groups improved dramatically!(i did find one screw on the base about 1/2 turn loose before i started shooting) i cud go hunting tmr if season was open but i have 3 weeks so i am going to do more fine tuning the next decent day to get dead on at 25 yards. right now i am dead on at 20 which puts me about 5-6" low at 30....jeff

generally I like other start with tightness, basics of the arrow sitting with no contact of fletch to the trough sides or bottom... I would shoot one arrow over and over oriented the same way mark results..second arrow over and over alone, oriented the same to the bow; be sure the tips are tight too; you are going about it correctly. are you shooting off hand or braced ? support hand in the same place and follow through consistent each time ? it wil be all fine.. you have a great rig there..

shooting off a bench from the beginning, i am not saying that changing the rubber stoppers is a cure all but it showed alot of improvement....jeff
