Another pleasant surprise with the R26

I’ve been debating cutting another half inch off my already shortened 18” Ravin arrows. I’m hunting on the ground now out of necessity and, with the bow’s buttstock resting on my thigh and the front of the bow on the ground, the long bodied Slick Trick Raptor Tricks’ points are touching the leaves And in some cases, sticking through leaves. These arrows shoot so good out of the 26, I’ve been hesitant to mess with them. I decided to try a few Ramcats instead today. They are much shorter than the RaptorTricks but not expandable so I didn’t think they would group as well. Wrong!!!:- )
At 70 yards they are hitting 3.5” lower than the RaptorTricks and dead on R/L. At 40 yards, the difference was only about 1.5”. I have lots of RamCats so the switch has been made:). No more broadheads digging into the leaves. When I go back to the farm Monday, I’m going to tweak the Z-Point vertically for 70 yards and that should take care of the 20 through 60 yard settings on the HHA Optimizer.

Sounds like you are getting her dialed in Moon.

The little bow is amazingly accurate. I’m disappointed that I’ve not seen anything I wanted to shoot at this season but we have a couple weeks remaining. I’m certainly not hunting with the intensity I did just a few years ago either.

The top photo is of the long RaptorTrick and the bottom photo of the shorter RamCat. Saves me the trouble of shortening the shafts again, and these little RamCats shoot!!!!:)

Shoot a … friggen squirrel or feral cat or something willya! How much can you monkey with this thing without unleashing the fury? Loan it to your gomba Ramrod and let the crossbow lose it's REALLY well documented virginity. :p;)

Moon,
I’ve become totally disenchanted with 2 blade expandibles: 1st year Spitfire, Schwackers, FOCs and the RaptorTrick. I have all 4 in my inventory. That inventory is now in my Bobcat/Coyote section.
Since my SWATs shoot most broadheads fairly consistently, with only vertical being the differences, it’s obvious that spinning the fixed blades creates enough drag to cause vertical displacement as range increases.
I think you made a wise move: hopefully, a nice buck will make a fateful move.

SEW, thanks, but I’ve been around long enough to know that what happened last hunting season is not likely to repeat itself:- )

As to broadheads, I thought the 400 FPS R26 would be too much for fixed blade heads so I didn’t even consider trying them until the last few days, resulting from the aggravation I was having with the long RaptorTrick heads as explained above. I had previously had very good results with the short bodied RamCats used on 350 to 360 FPS crossbows so I decided to at least try them on the R26 rather than going back and cutting more length off the arrow shafts for the Long RaptorTricks. A blind pig sometimes finds an acorn:p.

I think the offset blade angles in the RamCats may minimize the negative effect of standard straight up fixed blades. Another plus is the blades swivel forward when pulling them from targets.

With Pin … on sabbatical who's left around here who can take a joke?:);) Todd's pretty good with busting chops but has been AWOL, Ramrods been quiet lately, and SEW's been on a mission from the god of long range. You know I loveya bro, but with recurves and Ravins you're just a treasure of material to work with.:p:D;)

I’ve been busy hunting, but I agree. The bow needs some blood on it

The only way … that bow is getting blood on it is looking like it's gonna be Moon opening up one of his phalanges in a self inflicted incident with those notoriously dangerous RamCats ...lol:p;)

So … with all this hunting, you kill anything?:D:p;)
Yep, Ramrod has been hunting and has a few under his belt this season. When I was his age I would have been hunting mornings and afternoons too.........but I’m not. I normally go 2 or 3 seasons without pulling the trigger. Nothing new. Back in the early 80’s, I shot 3 bucks the first 3 days of bow season................WITH recurve and longbow verticals. That was then and this is now:p. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. You young whipper snappers will see how it goes in your late 70’s;- ) I’ll be watching:p

I get a lot of laughs watching you and Duke go back and forth on each other. But Moon how many bucks are you allowed to shoot in your state, we are only allowed one in Pa.

Moon. Have you ever tried a G5 Montec in your R26. My buddy shoots them in his R10 and man are they awesome . They are devastating on bone . Tore a shoulder up , and split the shoulder blade like a machete had Ben driven through it . There are four blades and the pointed tip is great for a catching side angle shots and not bouncing off . You can resharpen them, although it takes a good stone to . They fly great
Earl, I probably do but I’ll have to dig in a multitude of drawers to find them. I’ll keep that in mind if I have any glitches with these RamCats. So for now, it’s all good. Thanks:- )
