I do believe the original finish was anodized. A very flat finish, and almost abrasive to the touch.
Also. If the original finish is what you desire, you may want to leave the casting seams and imperfections on the crossbow.
The butt plate spacer was white plastic, but I wonder why Barnett didn't go with brass.
That's quite a task and a lot of work, but you seem to really have a love for the project.
