Carpet targets

I am considering making a roofed target cover and making two sides divided by pallet slats or something cheap I can replace. On the left I plan to hang a 2 - 2x10's on a 2x4 on all thread on each side. A 2x4 with 2 all thread drops on each side. They dumpster dive some commercial carpet oe what every I can get and crush is flat and tight between the top boards. The right side I will be able to hang a 10" and 6" gong for 30 to 40 yard pistol shooting.

Anyone made a carpet target for the crossbow and did it stop them well enough?

I have rebuilt some of the box style targets using the low jute back carpet, laid flat. This makes for a heavy target and hard to remove the field point arrows from. I did this with the earlier Big Shot 500. The new 24" x 24" x 9" version lists as weighing 65 pound. The Bull Dog House Plus XP 24" x 24" x 12" that originally listed as 35 pound that I purchased a couple of years a go. Bull Dog has a new version 24" x 24" x 16" rated at 450 feet per second, weighing 60 pound.

The best target I found for field point is the Spyder web as I have tested lots of targets of different brands and some of the same brand but a different series.

All the best.
Depending on your bow speed....I made me a field point target using a 52# dogfood sack and clothes materials. I dropped off two bags at the local seamstress after asking for some materials and she called me the next day with the materials. I packed 'em as tight as I could from the bottom to the top, tying the top shut. My bows shoot @ 315 and 350 fps and the arrows only penetrate a couple inches. Removes using two fingers. My target would work up to 400 fps easy. From one year to the next all I do is remove the rags from one feed sack and place into another one. Pretty cheap target.;)

Then maybe the bulk rags you can buy at paint stores would work? They're already packed real tight.
If theyre packed tight enough inside something then yes, they'll work.
They're packed way tighter then anyone could by hand. They're done with some kind of hydraulic system...can be tough to pull one out often. I use them a lot in my work. Do ya think they'd stop BHs?
IMO it would be a nightmare with BH's. They'll hang in the cloth and make it a real PAIN getting them out. IMO targets like these are just for field points.

Ya, makes sense...My dona cona boards might be better. They work pretty good for my Excal Ibex shoot'n Bolt Cutters. The Swat will be going a bit quicker though, so I'll have to watch out...I might have to break down and just buy a target though...! o_O

Or try the carpet thing...but that sounds like a PITA...Gotta be tough on shafts, with the rough backings...? And dirt maybe? (In old used carpet)
Spyder web for field points. Remove arrows with two fingers. Shoot different spots and reverse sides occasionally.

Blob for broadheads. Industrial foam in a box. Excellent target for sighting in broadheads.

I've tried about everything and these targets are the best I have used. Two years old and well over 1000 shots into each and still in good shape.

I might have to grab those....thanks, Gen
Way to compress these old do it your self bags?

I have one of those old bags filled with left overs. What would be the best way to restuff this in to a feed bag or compress by frame?

Someone had a target made out of the foam interlocking pieces that was pressed down by vertical all thread frame with a 2x something on top and tightened down with a washer on top of the 2by and nuts to compress and tighten down and compress the bag.

What if you built a press to compress these old bags down tight? Would that stop the arrows from blowing thru?

How hard would it be to get the arrows out?

Would it work for those that do not shoot a lot or need a cheap target up at the deer lease?

Get the mother-in-law too sit 'er fat arse 'em!!! :p
Mother-in-law died a few years ag,o and at 90+ a little frail.

Again for a few broad heads, How would you use an old bag? Jump on it to redistribute the weight and material.
Or try to repack in a feed sack though the old target is in good shape other than a lot of the surface is shot worn?
I bought a good Field point bag but need a rig job for broad heads. Do not plan to shoot them much once I have sighted in the BH's vs field points.

Any rigging ideas on the old bag is appreciated.

Too many hobbies and too little allowance from the wife of 44 years. ;)
