Centerpoint mercenary 390

Wife just got me a mercenary 390 for Christmas. This is my first crossbow ever so I'm still learning about them. My initial impression without having fired it yet is the quality seems really nice but I've read mixed reviews about QC with centerpoint. Anything I should know ahead of time such as maintenance or anything else that may give me grief along the way. First time posting here also so I appreciate the help in advance.

Welcome to CBN You came to the best place for info. Center point has great customer service. I dont know a lot about that bow. Best advice I can give off the bat is read your manual.

Ask specific questions here after that here. Be safe and have fun with the new bow.
Welcome to the boards and get you a good target that will stop your arrows short of the fletchings so you don't ruin the arrows.;):)

You will not find much. Ck my earlier post. They may have been a one time build from a different company than what makes the 370 sniper versions that has been in the top 5 best cheap Xbows for several years and a crapp- trigger.
I do not know.

I bought one on sale for 200 back at TG. Shoots well and good trigger.
I ran some bolts thru the crony and at 12 feet got
365-369 fps with the bolts that came with it and 100 gr field points and 356 fps range for the 125 field points.

I did not care for the CP scope and got the 79$ Ravin that is on sale on the board.

I called CS and the person had no knowledge on what 20" bolts they recommend. Buy and try some was the ans. He could not tell me what brand the 3 bolts are in the kit.

I am checking now to fig out what bolts and hunting points to use and 100 or 120 wt.
You definitely need a good target other wise you will start putting bolts thru the target and screwing up the fetching..

Shorten the cocking rope to a minimal length and it will make the cocking process easier, especially if you are 5' 9" or shorter.

Your bow is made by PoeLang for CenterPoint and like the company that makes the Sniper, the triggers are poor. They have a long pull (1/2" to 5/8") and a relatively heavy break pressure (6-8lbs). The M390 is just like the Tormentor so addressing the trigger issue is the same. Shoot it a bit and if you can't stand it, do a search here for Tormentor Trigger and read through that thread.

If your Mercenary is the "Whisper" package you already limb silencers and the butt stock has an adjustable cheek pad. If it's not you may consider those two additions.

Take care of you strings and keep the flight rail lubricated but not over-lubricated. Look at the products from Scorpion Venom to do that.

The 20" carbon arrow are OK but don't be surprised if there is a flyer, possibly two. Add getting better hunting arrows to your "to-do" list.

Use a proven Xbow rated broadhead, preferably one that flies like a field point. I use mechanicals and have had excellent performance from them. Specifically the 3 blade, 1 and 1/2" cut, Grim Reaper Razortip in the 100 gn weight. Their packages will be marked "Xbow Approved".
