I use a CE ProChrono DLX that I can bluetooth to my phone and record the data. Competitive Electronics or Caldwell are the most common. There's no rocket science in them, just get one that has the features you want. I got a cheap tripod off Amazon to mount it on, and I was setup.

I use Caldwell Ballistic Precision model. It was I thing less then $100. In decent light it works well. Inside, not so much.

Mine works great indoors under an LED shop light.

I had trouble with chrony and competition brands indoors, I have all LED lighting in my shop and always a hit or miss if it was going to read or not. So I bought this off Amazon for $70, it uses infrared light to read the shot and has never failed to display the shot. If you purchase make sure to read the directions on the orientation of the light strips or the infrared won't come on, indicated by the corner purple light, when those are on , infrared is on.

All that said, can you guys tell me just how much you use them? I never bought one thinking, well, all I could do is shoot my bow thru it to see how fast it is. And I already know I dont have fast crossbows.

I don't use mine much anymore, maybe 5-6 times a year...
I used it more for reloaded ammo than bow stuff, but it is nice to have to compare arrow component changes such as heavier inserts, and broadheads or heavier shafts on my crossbows and verts.

I shoot through mine quite a bit. I use it when Im playing around with different arrow weights. I use it to tell me if my string change needs adjusting to maintain speed. It can also tell me if I lost 10 fps or more to look for things such as a weaken limb due to a crack. I also use it when testing rifle loads. Its not something that you have to have my any means just a great tool to have is all.

I used my old beta last week. I’m sure the newer $100 Caldwell is leaps and bounds above it. I also had to shoot really close to the targets to get it to read. I only held it 4 to 5 inches above the targets, or I would get an error message.

you can see how low my arrow was skimming off the top of it. That was with my old Horton hunter express SL made around 96’. I also had to take off the sunshades because I had it underneath a shaded deck or it wouldn’t read either. I just left the guide rods on for aiming points.

Chrony model F-1 , it's an old model but seems to work, no gadgets or bluetooth or nothin, I keep saying I'm going to get a new model, but no more than I use it I just haven't ???
Same one that I have, bought it back in 2016 when I bought my new Scorpyd Orion Extreme 175, at the time the baddest bow on the planet...shooting "up to 440 fps", lol! Haven't used it much since.

I’m in the same boat with Gab. I’ve nearly pushed the “ Buy It Now” button several times. But I know WWB already tests my arrows in more ways than I could. With the RDX 400 and TP 505 I know arrows fly fast enough. Using speed as a way of judging string life or other maintenance issues seems to have some merit. As Gab said “All that said…” seems like the only thing I really care about for my type of use is whether hunting tips hit where I aim. I’ve moved my money into hunting tip targets.
(One still might be fun:ROFLMAO:)

I have the Caldwell G2. Designed with the sensor gates are upside down so that it's not affected by different lighting situations. Has the built-in LED light in the white screens. Has a rechargeable battery to run the LED lights. Bluetooth connection to phone for recording shots. On average, I use it 2-3 times a year.

i use it to check bow f.p.s after the bow has sat for a few weeks.
I use the same test arrow at the exact same distance. You would be shocked at how much f.p.s drop of after a bow sits for a few months. I have had as much as 14 f.p.s

I also check f.p.s on a new bow right out of the box to see how much fudging there was on the birth certicate. I use to 2 differnt brands of chronographs in tandem and they usually run a few f.p.s apart.

It nice too for setting up scopes. I shoot 3 shots through and get 6 reading then average it out for f.p.s rating for the scope.

I have 2 of them and use them on a weekly basis , testing bows I build .
They are great for testing speed and then cocking a bow for 2 hrs and seeing if there is any speed reduction .I usually have one out in front of my bows when shooting on the bench , just to see consistency through a shouting session .
I really like them when i take a faster bow and slow it down for shorter range shooting .

Very valuable tool if ya ask me !!!!
