Glad this post is up. My story is I have a pro-chrono. I was recently thinking I should upgrade it... so I just finally took it out of the box for the first time after 20 or so years. o_O Mine has the remote control that connects to a computer or some printer with an old school style serial connector(not sure that will be doable anymore?) The battery in it (9v) was connected and swelled apart but I installed a new battery and it is working like new. So I think it qualifies for the chrono cold storage award maybe? I decided I probably need to use this one once before I should buy a new one. Looking forward to seeing if it works.

I have 2 of them and use them on a weekly basis , testing bows I build .
They are great for testing speed and then cocking a bow for 2 hrs and seeing if there is any speed reduction .I usually have one out in front of my bows when shooting on the bench , just to see consistency through a shouting session .
I really like them when i take a faster bow and slow it down for shorter range shooting .

Very valuable tool if ya ask me !!!!
That is a interesting thought regarding speed reduction from being cocked for extended periods of time. I would guess the loss of FPS would be minimal. What have you noticed in your tests?

That could go under the heading of, " They don't make em like they used to. "

Yeah, I probably can count on both hands how many times I’ve used mine since I’ve owned it since about 2000’. I’ve always used it for hand loading. Once I finally get a load that basically shoots a Cloverleaf or close to all in the same hold 100 yards and decide I’m gonna load up a bunch of them for hunting. I want to know what the velocity is so I can figure out my drops. And it’s never close to what advertised book load is because I always load them longer and or crimp with a firm crimp at times. I’ve also shot my BB gun through it a few times just for something to do. I never shot my crossbow through it till the other day. It’s just one of those fun toys you never use. Reminds me of my night vision scope, I’ve never used. I should probably sell that off and put it towards a crossbow too!

…Kind of disappointing… I wish I would’ve never shot my crossbows through my chronograph the other day. If so, I would’ve thought they both were STILL really fast (in my mind) and didn’t know now that I need a faster crossbow now to kill deer… because both of them have killed tons of deer at slower then the average modern crossbow speeds. At least now I can calculate drops in my Nikon 3X crossbow scope with the BDC reticle Which was the main point of shooting various bolts through the chronograph.

For the past 16 years I was using a cheap light sensing Shooting Chrony Alpha for reading rifle and handgun ballistics . It was "ok" . VERY fussy with varied light conditions and inconsistent readings, incapable of reading indoors (I tried many different lighting setups, nothing worked) . I learned that I got the best consistency reading in bright overcast outdoor conditions. Got into archery and the inconsistencies got even worse. In the end I upgraded and bought the Competition Electronics DLX and purchased the optional lighting kit for indoors. VERY happy at the consistency of the CE . Varied light is no longer an issue.
