Finally shot a buck

My brother has been after me to kill a deer for him to make jerky out of so I went last night and did not see anything so I got up and went again this morning. A few minutes after 9 I was standing in a ladder stand stretching my legs and looking around and had just started easing back down to sit when this guy pops up trotting real fast across the ridge and heard my butt hit the seat apparently. He stopped with his head and neck behind a tree and I could tell he was about to explode out of there. My brain was screaming shooter and I needed meat so I shot him. Turned out to have a lot of ground shrinkage but my brother will get his jerky now so all is well.

Congrats on the buck Robert. You can't make Jerky from the horns. Besides unless your shooting a monster buck like that Gil guy on CT every few years were all just taking the "nice" bucks.

I had already passed him up 3 times during bow and rifle season. He just caught me by surprise and I did not have time to really look at him before shooting or he would still be alive. I was actually after a doe . He is a nice buck but I have become really picky on what I shoot as I have gotten older. I call an 8 like him a JA 8 for "Just another 8". I am taking a younger friend hunting this weekend weather permitting and I doubt seriously that I will be doing any shooting.

Thanks for the comments guys. All greatly appreciated.

Congratulations! Fine buck there. I just picked up mine from the processor today and he was a bit smaller. :) Also, going to give it a go at making jerky.
