What hunts do you have planned for this year?? I will hunt whitetails in a couple of states , Bear in Mihcigan and possibly elk in Colorado. (That depends on gas prices.) Also hope to hunt Hogs and whitetails in Texas and antelope in Wyoming, if all goes well.

"The Urban Whitetail Season" here in NOVA starts on Sept 15, 08 - Mar 15, 09. ====> i can hardly wait.

Man, that is a nice long season!! How many deer are you alowed to harvest? A person could make their year's meat for sure if the allowable harvest tags are sifficient!

dagriz,

"as many as you can shoot & NOT WASTE MEAT", is what the local "animal control supervisior" told me last fall.

we have so many deer in NOVA that i've wondered WHY they bother to ever close the deer season. one local man "in town" recently said that he counted 68 deer in his 1/4 acre yard in less than an hour - ALL eating his landscaping up!!!

the latest estimate from the county is that there is about 4 times as many deer in Fairfax County as the county SHOULD have!!!

this year, the latest i heard was: "Shoot anything with or without antlers and at any age. Just remove them from the county."

i refuse to really call this HUNTING. rather it is SHOOTING.

Well, here in California your chances anymore for being drawn for anything is slim, so for this year I will continue to hunt hogs, and bear season starts around Aug. 1, both are OTC tags.

I refuse to call it shooting because it gives the ARA's one more piece of ammo
in their belt that they will use. Trust me on that one. Its all about the words they use with the non-hunting public and the way they twist them to get what they want.

I'm around the corner in Howard County.
We have a fair number here but its not that high.
I took my fair share last year.

Our last day of hunting is 1/31 in MD...except for the howard county things we have going on.

If you can send me the info on nova or give me a pointer, I'd apprediate it.
I'd consider extending my season into feb and march.

Regards,

Pete

Hey GG Do you plan to hunt over a bait? Do you have someone who will start and maintain a couple of bait stations for you? A stalk and still hunt for bear in Minnesota is a real tough way to be successful.

Yea, it's one of those guide to guide deals where another guide here has a place set up up there an someone doing the baiting. The guides name is John and he moved here from Minnesota and took over an exotic ranch I wanted to do full time. We still do the hog removal for that ranch, and I've saved his butt a few times when I found the Barasinga bulls on the outside of the high fence. Could you imagine seeing a Barasinga bull walk past your stand? No because they aren't an animal found all over the USA! They are bigger than a Red Stag. The owner raises special exotic and endangered species, along with whitetail and the regular exotics found all over Texas. We're going to a party at the ranch Saturday to meet the others in the group we'll be hunting with. I'm just glad I'm accepted into the all male group. That's not usually the case. Guess I finally earned enough respect to be invited on this hunt. Cool!
Why? You wanna go bait for me? he he! Maybe we'll have some time to visit on our trip. Last cross country trip to Ohio, Awshucks invited us to his place, but we ran short of time trying to hunt and meet industry people on their schedules. I should have blown off the industry folks and tried harder as I'd have loved to meet him. Hindsight.

This year will be the first time in three years that I'm actually going to be able to hunt. There's a sweet place in the Berkshires that I'll be booking for four days during the Whitetail season. Unfortunately, crossbows are not legal for hunting in the People's Socialist Republic of Massachusetts. In fact, there's an effort to make them illegal altogether.

I'm hoping to take a long weekend in Connecticut at a business associates house. His backyard abutts 195 acres of woodlands with a nice moving creek. Across from the creek is an apple orchard. It should be a good time.

Just my usual Sika hunt at Chincoteague. Chasing those little rascals is addictive. I had 6 go by me last year and could not get a shot at them. I know where to be next year. I found the most amazing natural funnel I've ever seen hunting. Should be interesting this fall.
