Frankenbows are crossbows made from parts of different crossbows.
Mostly Excalibur and other recurve parts are used.
For example, riser from one bow, limbs from another bow, rail from yet another.
Frankenbows are crossbows made from parts of different crossbows.what exactly is a frankenbow? seems like something i might like........
Well, sometimes you have a bow with limbs that need to be replaced. Lots of Middleton’s with Matrix limbs, now that Middleton is out of business. I got parts from the classifieds here and on Crossbow Talk, and other forums. There used to be more people doing this, and we would sometimes trade parts as well.where are you guys getting the parts? buying them each or buying used comeplete bows and then mixing and matching...
I bet this set-up is a tack driver. Very well doneView attachment 160986
Here is one that I assembled. It has Matrix limbs, an Exo series forward riser (opened up to take the Matrix limbs), an Apex mainframe, a Matrix 405 trigger, and a thumbhole stock. Shadowbark camo courtesy of bbahunter and Wyvern. I used essentially this bow (with a different limb set and stock) to take my buck this season. It is the equivanlent of a Matrix 355, but it's only 33.5" long.
Thanks. As far as accuracy, my experience is that every crossbow I've had has been more accurate than I can shoot unless there's a problem with the bow. If a recurve crossbow is out of tiller, accuracy will suffer. Otherwise, if you have well matched limbs, it's just sending an arrow down a rail, and I've yet to find one that shoots much different than any other. It's mostly the arrow, IME. I mostly stubled on this frankenbow thing, though I did make a bunch of frankenbow compounds before I had to switch to the crossbow. Much like CBRon, this was my first. A Vixen with modified DTM limbs that took my Vixen from 275 fps to 332! I guess it's mostly a way for me to avoid worrying about the ATA show, and pulling out the CC for a new model when the itch strikes.I bet this set-up is a tack driver. Very well done
