I'm very close to finally pulling the trigger on my new bow.
The new Micro Extreme and especially the Wolverine are tempting, but with Wyvern's price on the Mag 340 I am tempted to save $500 from the Wolverine and go with the Mag 340.

The only thing holding me back is the limbs. I have read countless hunter's who absolutely swear by the new beefy H.O limbs.
To be honest I'm unclear on the limb reliability of the Mag 340. I will be using Dragon Claw arrows, with the heavy inserts and 150 gr broadheads.

I have read the Mag 340 has improved limbs (albeit not as improved as the H.O limbs) over the other Micro series bows, is this true?

So all things aside, is it truly worth spending $300-$500 more to get a model with the H.O limbs? How reliable are the Mag 340's?
This will be my primary bow, I will be using the4 EXT crank due to disability.

Basically I have it narrowed to three options:

1.) Mag340 w/ Deadzone scope, Charger EXT, Tombstone Case and (6) Dragon Claw Arrows for $950

2.) Micro Extreme w/ Deadzone Scope, Charger EXT, Tombstone Case and (6) Dragon Claw arrows for $1198

3.) The Wolverine w/ Overwatch Scope, Charger EXT, Tombstone Case and 6 Dragon Claw Arrows for $1398

Please help me decide, any and all advice is truly appreciated.

I’ve got 2 of the 340s in the house my son has well over 500 shots on them and never an issue. Nothing wrong with the 340 I’ll bet it’s probably Excalibur’s best selling crossbow. My only complaint is I’m not a fan of the dead zone scope but my son likes it. I personally would upgrade that. If you want 20 FPS and little more bling buy the Wolverine. Can’t go wrong with either one of them.

Do you really need the charger crank? You can save money by dropping that and the case.
I do need the crank (multiple shoulder surgeries) but I might be able to do without the case. Does it hurt these things to have them out in the open? So say I drop the case, what xbow would you go with?

Well if money isn't a big concern I'd buy the Wolverine. The limbs are excellent and I know you won't mind the extra speed. Plus it's a 40th annv model which is kinda cool. But all your choices are nice bows.

The mag 340 is an awesome bow. It'll absolutely do everything you could ever need. Over 1000 shots on mine, limbs are still perfect.

The Wolverine and Micro Extreme models are 20fps faster ? & probably just as rugged / durable. Worth the extra cost? Not in my personal opinion, but a personal decision you'll have to ponder.

I've had & used Excals over 15 years now & I think you will be extremely pleased with which ever model you end up getting. There's no bad choice in the current Excal lineup .

I've been following the Mag 340 since I developed an interest in crossbows, and I haven't read about any limb failures for that crossbow.

If I thought I wanted more speed & was planning to use a crank, I would skip the Wolverine & get the Micro 380. I think the Wolverine looks slick, but performance wise I feel the Micro 380 may be the better value.

If you are going to pay extra for speed, it makes more sense to jump 40 fps versus 20 fps for about the same price.

If I were planning to rope cock my crossbow, the Wolverine may be a better choice over the 380.

Thanks for this. I pulled trigger on the Mag 340 tonight. Can't wait to get it. Your post helped me a bunch.

Mods, Is there a way to close this thread now by any chance?

I have the Mag 340 Overwatch and I love it. I have had several of them and they just keep calling me back it is light and very compact for any hunting situation.
You won't go wrong either way my friend just pull the trigger and keep us posted.
By the way, the 340 is my favorite of all the Crossbows I ever owned and I had a few in the past 10 years.
