Hello y'all. My husband and I just bought our first crossbow. I thought I'd join so I can ask questions when needed, as it is turning out to have a bit of a learning curve. Seems to require some actual skill. haha. Anyway, I just started hunting last year with a rifle. Now I'm hooked. :D I really wanna continue through the urban and regular archery seasons which would mean 6 months a year of deer hunting. I have an 18 month old. I find it very peaceful and relaxing to get out of the house early in the morning and hang out in the woods and get some gentle exercise that way. Plus I'm always looking for ways to boost the family's finances with some extra meat.
Cheers!

Welcome to the boards. :)
Welcome to the Nation.
Thanks for the welcome, guys.
I got my first real practice session in today. Banged up a few arrows until we figured out how to arrange our homemade target so it had stopping power. (It's layers of heavy duty rubberized felt over a crib mattress in front of some haybales.) We almost got the new bow sighted in. Way better day than the 1st day out where we lost some arrows in the woods shooting too high. I guess I'm going to have to get some more fletching and some glue and learn arrow repair next. But overall, I'm very pleased with how a crossbow shoots. It's a bit more awkward to handle and prep to fire than a rifle, but overall feels pretty good! As a bonus, the weather was sunny and not as frigid as it has been.

Welcome!!! I know you ladies can shoot!!!! My daughter, Elyse whacked this sucker with my Excal xbow about 5 years ago. Double wind bagged, tucked right in behind the shoulders! 15 yds shot, that she chose the stalk on, and forced him to stand broadside!!! Like a champ!!! Great for me just to watch, no back up ever needed for this little lady!!!!

She's hardcore! Amazing! What a great experience for her to have.
Hha. No grizzlies for me though. We have black bear around here; but I have never seen one myself on our lands. Coyotes are another story. They even come up to the house to raid the garbage if a pizza box gets left out. My mother fears one of her dogs will get eaten. But I have yet to get a shot at one.
I think I'll stay away from road hunting. My husband was raised that way, but one year his dad and uncle got mousetrapped by the warden and it took them 8 months to get their rifles back as an error in paperwork made one appear to be stolen. They love telling that story.
