New Excalibur buyer's help!

Hello All,

So I am in the market for a crossbow and narrowed my search down to Excalibur. By everything I read and shot at the store, the Excalibur and Ravin are my top 2 choices. Why Excalibur over Ravin? Mainly warranty. And price a bit.

But I cannot for the life of my decide what crossbow to get! I really want to get a Micro 355 but I cannot find a decent one near me. (I prefer to buy used for cost savings. But will buy new if there is a good deal.) I do like the Bulldog 400. Now I see there is a Micro 340 TD!

So many choices! How did you guys decide? I will be hunting mainly ground blinds and trees. So that is a concern.

Thanks everyone!

P.S. if you know of a really good deal, let me know!

Time constraints you place on yourself can dictate what you get and how much you pay. If you're not in a hurry then obviously you can wait for the best deal. And if you are open to a few different models, even better yet for snagging a deal. eBay often has deals pop up on new in box excals. And the MarketPlace here (currently there are 3 Axe's listed there). If you're set on the micro platform, any of the Micro 335, 355, Micro Supressor, or Axe 340 would be a great choice. Even the Micro 315 and 308 Short are very worthy bows, but you seem to be set on a little more speed. If you don't plan on backpacking the bow a lot or flying to hunting destinations, I would avoid a TD model. It's just unnecesary complexity at that point.

Thanks! That is some really solid advice of course. I am really in no dire need to buy "today" but we all know how it is to pursuing something like this. I haven't come across many Micro 355s for sale. We shall see. Thanks again.
As far as the choice goes, you have done the most important thing, and shot both. In terms of preference, Excal is just more my kind of bow. I have been doing my own maintenance on compound bows and crossbows since the early ‘90s. I can’t imagine me buying a crossbow I have to take to a shop to get the string reserved or other tuning. I’m not ready for a bow I HAVE TO crank. I have a C2, but don’t use it unless I need to. The way I hunt, I don’t need big speed. I personally prefer the Matrix bows, and don’t find the width to be a handicap at all. The Micros are good too. If you can be patient, I would join Crossbow Talk and keep an eye on the classifieds for a good deal on a 355 or suppressor. A number of guys on that forum go through crossbows frequently, and sell at crazy discounts. Also with Excal, you can buy used and still generally have warranty service. Not the case with most others.

So I called a dealer about an hour away from me. They are having blowout deals. Brand new Micro Suppressor Stratas for $729. Micro 355 for $649. Just crazy compared to new online. Going tomorrow to check them out. And drain the bank account a little.

I bought micro axe 340 done side by side comparison to the micro supressor, 599 vs 1199, axe wins hands down, same speed same limbs, same draw length, same 16.5 bolts just less than 2" longer on stock butt, non lighted deadzone scope and not cammoed on the rail?? Definatly not 500 dif between 2 sighting out of the box was 1" hi and 2" left so it was quick to sight to a 3 bolt group you could cover with a 1/2 dollar at 30 yrds bow is a dream to shoot! And wicked small like hunting with a short tatical ar 15
I like the bow but not much of a buget pricr lol my opinion budget pricr is 399-499 not 650 lol its a crazy priced bow but i like the bow but the price is far from buget lol
lol it will break the buget lol lol
...So many choices! How did you guys decide?...
Go shoulder and shoot 'em. Then you will make up your mind. IMO, there's no wrong Excalibur.;):)
