We live in California, in about a year we are going to move to Santa Fe, NM, after looking at New Mexico law regarding crossbows I am a little dismayed and dissapointed to say the least when it comes to their laws regarding hunting with XBows....Maybe I should find some other place to move...Anyone know anything about New Mexico that I don't?

I've hunted close to that area and they don't like crossbows. Kinda like they don't recognize them as weapons at all. You could always work on changing that for the rest of us, or move further south and live in Texas. What's strange about that area of New Mexico is you can take your dog into a restaurant to lay beside you while dining. That blew my mind! If you need a realtor, Butchs ex is a realtor broker in that area and the office is in Las Vegas N.M. She used to have a 25,000 acre ranch there that we hunted for Mulies and Bear. Once your family, your always family! Never doubt that when there are kids involved. New Mexico will be a very different area for you going from California. I don't think I could do it. Also, chicken fighting is still legal there and the pits are located in Jal and Hobbs. The gambling part is not legal tho. Have to go to Ridoso to the Indian Reservation for the casino gambling. Don't expect to win there either.

Thanks for the info...maybe I will get something started there...actually it's funny you should mention Texas, my brother-in-law lives in Helotes on 11.5 acres, it's just outside of San Antonio...anyways we are actually thinking Texas also, I know ther are places there I could actually be in "Hog" heaven...part of that thinking is the outrageous G&F fees in New Mexico, even higher than California.
Moving to New Mexico or Texas won't be as bad for me as it will my kids...all they know is California, I was born and raised in a dumpy little dirt town in Arizona (Yuma), then I moved to Central Arizona, and from there to Great Falls, Mt. for 5 years, and then of course California....If it wasn't for hog hunting here, the hunting would be slim...try to get drawn for elk or even deer nowadays...so with California I am stuck hunting Hogs, Bear, coyoyes and bobcats, stuff I don't have to get drawn for. When this place gets alot of rain, the hogs are thick, now since the rain has been real slim, the hog population has dropped a little, that being said they are just a little harder to hunt down...Not near as plentiful as Texas. There was not near the hogs taken here in 07...as compared to the 4 preceding years...
Anyways...Later, Joe

Targethogs,
Helotes is beautiful country, and no slums there! Major hogs right down the road in San Geronimo. Good Mexican food restaurant as well. El Chapparal.
I know that neck of the woods pretty well. Medina Lake is only 30 minutes away. I lived there for 10 or 15 years. My commercial insurance agent is in Helotes. That's a good place to call home. Oh, and crossbow are legal in Texas all year except archery deer season. Lots of free ranging exotics in that area too. Let's see? Santa Fe New Mexico or Helotes Texas. I know where I'd go.
You'd be within an hour of me, and in the area of TexasNative also. Two of this sites members.

My brother-in-law is trying to get us to move there also, I think I will, it looks like a hunting haven compared to California...at least the housing is cheaper in Tx. I could buy 3 houses in Tx based on the value of my home here in Ca....now I just have to sell this one....and the housing market here in Ca. right now is crap, but I think I will give it a try anyway.
I was thinking I would like to be moved before Xmas...or right around there...I know there are some great places to eat there, all of the good dives around here have closed up, all you really have is the fast food drive thrus...I'll let ya know when we get a little closer to making a move, I might come out there in July or August to look around.
Later, Joe

I guess they too

will eventually look around and see the successes of other states that have legalized crossbows, tell their so called PBS types and state bowhunting organizations that are spewing the packs of lies to SHUT UP, and legalize crossbows in New Mexico.
