Is this a concern?
Is there any way - or is it even advisable - to "lube" the cocking rope?
If so, what should I use???

That’s probably cheap cotton rope that came with your crossbow.

Try getting some 3mm Dyneema off eBay - it’s a bit thinner so you might have to double knot the ends to anchor them into the handles, but it’s almost as strong as steel cable.

Myles - how long is your current cocking rope?

Myles - how long is your current cocking rope?
I'm guessing four feet total length. Three feet of that is between the handles and does the actual work.
