Over the ATA Hype, Upcoming Xbow Magazine Hog hunt, Game on!

At the end of this month I do look forward to meeting a group of guys I have never met before in South Carolina for a hog hunt. Todd, and the boys will be flinging arrows and sporting some fun stories. I look forward to meeting everyone for a few laughs and hopefully a few hogs.

Never hunted a hog with a Xbow before so I look forward to this opportunity. Seems the POA requires a bit of more accuracy because they are four legged tanks. Looking forward to that opportunity.

Good opportunity to try some heavy arrows. Maybe 600 gr. ?? Close range of course, say 40 yd.
Tom, check out some of the videos on YouTube by Ranch Fairy. His channel is about mostly hunting hogs with heavy arrows and one piece fixed heads. Got a lot of good info on hog anatomy and arrow placement.

Good luck.

Samt,

Thanks, is there a recommended arrow weight? Seems like I may have to purchase 150grain BH's to get my TrueX arrows up to 430 grains. That calculates me shooting at 390fps out of my BearX Constrictor.
Same, thank! My anticipated shooting range is 25 yards.

Unless you are in an elevated stand, keep your shots in the lower 1/3 rd. Be patient to get the right shot, know where the hog vitals are. If your shot is good and your not taking a 50 yard shot, you will most likely put it through the pig.

25 yard shots from your crossbow will smoke these hogs Tom. Your arrow weight is good. Maybe a little light if you run across a 500 lb boar. Even then the right shot will take him out.

Ranch Ferry is great! ;) Lots of "trad" bowhunting and mindset shared but that's fine too.

I'm sure there is, more like a minimum probably. You'll need to search through his vids to find the ones about arrow weight. From watching some of his videos, I do know that he's a true believer of Dr Ashby's writings.

Personally I've never hunted hogs, but enjoy learning about it.
