I bought my first archery stamp in 1982, I was always taught to respect private land, if you don't have permission, then stay off it, whats been getting to me is when I see someone post land they do not own, if fact nobody privately owns the property he posted, I don't hunt there but it is huntable land, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't posted signs have to be singed and dated and they are only good for one year, is that correct?

In some states to post property that is NOT owned by the poster, said poster can be punished by a fine. In some instances, that fine may be up to $500 dollars.
Some states do require that the posted sign be signed by the Registered Owner.
Also, some states require signs be posted no more that 50 feet apart along ALL of the perimeter of the property.
Some states require the signs themselves NOT be attached to a tree or fence, but on a post by themselves.

We had a guy arrested for doing just what your talking about. Posting property that wasnt his trying to stop us from hunting our own relations property.

I have seen a guy also post county land for the same reason. Actually this same guy just put posters up again this year on a small piece of county property to keep guys out of where he is hunting. People do strange things over a deer.

Here in WV only the property owner or a lease owner can legally post property and there has to be a signed poster within sight of each other and or purple paint on trees.
Could be possibly a hunter has leased the property in question 🤔

I know the guy that's putting the signs up, the land he's posting is about 100 acres and he's putting up signs just because he don't want anyone hunting the land, he's an anti hunter and feels nobody should hunt, that's fine to feel that way but not fine to post land that don't belong to him, he threatens to have people arrested if he see's anyone parked by the land, putting threatening notes on cars that park there, the land is public land so he is not leasing it.

Hunter harassment at its finest.

I been through the notes left on the vehicle. Also have been threatened and the goof would drive right down through the field, lay on the horn, yelling out the window.

Another guy would walk through the woods yelling no hunting. One day I slipped out of the stand, stood on the corner of a trail he was walking, just as he was coming to the corner of the brush I stepped out and scared the daylights out of him. That was the last time he messed with me and was arrested a few days later.

Now that property is over run with outlaws day and night off and on all year driving through and shooting anything standing that they can see. Its amazing how quick things change in a few years time.

In Ga all private land is posted. You must have written permission to hunt it. Signs or no signs, it's up to you to find out if land is posted (private) or not.

Unless the law has just changed in GA it actually says you must have Written permission if the land is so posted. Most clubs that I have been in just post no trespassing signs so their guests don't have to have written permission slips every time they hunt with a member. My club doesn't require it. But you are totally correct that all private land is considered posted in GA even if no signs are up.

Found it:

Contact your local Department of Wildlife, also your local county Sheriff's Office. This "individual" is indeed in violation of the law!!
Where I'm from, he'd be in JAIL so fast it would make his head swim. Or in some instances, he'd be in need of medical attention!! 😎

His verbal and written threats are a violation of the law. If he implies a physical threat, it's immediate jail time. Jail time might calm his nerves!
I feel for you in this situation. I personally wouldn't put up with it one second!

In Wisconsin, the trespassing laws were changed years ago. Currently private land does not have to be physically posted with no trespassing signs. If you are hunting on private land with out permission, which could be just verbal, you could be charged with trespassing. It is the hunters responsibility to get permission from the land owner.

We did have a interesting situation about ten years ago, where just before our firearm deer season, someone was putting up no trespassing signs on public land. No one was ever caught.

Many years back we had a neighbor to our club start putting posted signs about 50 yards inside our boundaries. I wrote him a letter as he was a SOB to talk to telling him he could move the signs back to his line which was marked or I would be glad to walk the lines with him if he was confused as to the property lines. A week later all the signs were moved. I think he was hoping no one would notice the signs being posted wrong. He sold out finally and we ended up buying some of the property.

If it were me if I wanted to hunt there I would continue to do so and if I saw the guy doing the illegal posting I would call him out on it and tell him he needs to mind his own business or I'll have the country sheriff knocking on his door😉👍

Here in Iowa not much posting of private land at all...Which always seems strange to me,,seeing it is a deer hunting Mega State...
I was wondering if there's any room left for me to come hunt ,lol, I'd love to hunt your state, Pennsylvania isn't bad for hunting, BUTT, land is disappearing fast, I been away from hunting for quite awhile, I looked on google maps to check out my former hunting spots, I got really depressed when I seen where my stand used to be is a parking lot for Home Depot, I almost cried, seriously! I didn't need permission to hunt back then because there was a lot more land to hunt.

Same here back in the day. Any timber land could be hunted as there was no such thing as deer leases.Once that started changing it all changed IN A HURRY! I have @ 80 acres of private that I hunt and the landowners treats their land like it's mine. I just love those guys but I realize that it can all change in an instant too. It's happened before.

As for Texas, purple paint can be used to designate "No Trespassing". I do this, plus signs and fences. gates have locks on them. Signs also to warn you that you are now on "private property", and under surveillance, and yet, I STILL catch folks trespassing!!
1st offense gets you I'd and 'warned" by me and the local law enforcement agency NOT to EVER be found on that property again. If you get caught again, you go straight to jail, and your vehicle impounded. No questions ask.

There is NO EXCUSE for criminal trespassing or Hunter Harassment in my opinion. 😠👮‍♂️

One of the funniest instances I saw of someone posting public land as private was a neighboring landowner to a piece of public I was working on. The first 50-100 yards from the road followed the property line, then slowly angled into the public until it was close to a 45 degree angle from the property line by the time you were a couple hundred yards in. By his back line, the posted 'property line' was hundreds of yards into public. He had a conversation with a Conservation Officer and it got corrected, but I thought that was pretty clever, though obviously frustrating to deal with.
