You guys did great! I am a firm believer that anyone has the right to hunt, however they can. Whether recurve, compound, crossbow, etc. We ALL have the same rights to enjoy this sport. Thanks for helping this Veteran out! There's a special place in heaven for folks like you.

Really sad to hear and experience this type of behavior. Inappropriate to any hunter, disabled or not and should be a felony everywhere in all cases. It served no purpose except to ruin everyone's hunt for the day.

I have actually had a vertical bowhunter that was trespassing on my brother's land, sitting in a tree stand, try to kick me off because I was interfering with his hunt! I simply pulled my cell phone out and asked him if he wanted me to call the sheriff. He said sure, go ahead. I asked him if he was sure he wanted me too and then advised him that he was trespassing on private land owned by my brother. Boy did he turn red! He apologized, climbed down out of his tree stand, removed his screw in tree steps, picked up his gear, and then quietly left. I wasn't crossbow hunting at the time, was grouse hunting with a .410 shotgun. But still, just shows how many of these modern day bow hunters feel they have claim to every square inch of the woods.

It wasn't like this 40 years ago. People were polite and respectful back then. We always stopped to ask permission to hunt private land EVERY time we went out to the property and let the landowner know how we did when we left for the day. Wish those times would come back.

Stay safe, friendly, and polite everyone! Today, the point of the hunt for most is to enjoy it in all its aspects, as we can always count on the grocery store to put meat on the table.

Myself being disabled. I could care less what a person hunts with either bow or crossbow, inline muzzleloader or traditional smoke pole.
I've been lucky as no one ever gave me any heck as far as what kind of bow I use. Except for maybe some die hard archer whom was a traditional archer bow hunter. He just rolled his eyes when I told him I used an Excal Crossbow to hunt with-I told him at least it was a recurve crossbow-I just smiled back at him as he did me. He knew yrs ago I hunted with a longbow and a compound bow. Still my point being if someone can be out in God's wonderful nature with a legal weapon they can hunt with so be it. Don't hassle them as to what legal weapon they use to put meat on their table with. Lots of stupid people in this world for sure!!!!!

It's pathetic how far some archers will go to hate crossbows and those who use them. Last season my son and I came upon a guy in a wheelchair being terrorized by such a jerk. The poor guy in the wheelchair had been bowhunting alone along an access road in a local wildlife area. His buddy was off somewhere else. The guy ranting was twice the disabled guys size and half his age. The poor guy in the chair looked terrorized and was obviously at the loudmouth bullies mercy. I came up to them in time to hear the one guy screaming that he was half a mind to beat the crippled guy up and take his crossbow. My son was a couple minutes behind me coming up the road but still out of sight. The guys attitude went over with me like a lead brick! I got the jerks attention, pointed to my crossbow, and asked if he'd like to try and take mine. Amazing how many shades of red a person can turn. He started to challenge me, I'm a disabled Vietnam Vet and was 56 at the time, untill my son rounded the curve into sight with fire in his eyes. My son offered to feed the guy his bow sideways in the reverse order of digestion! Followed by his arrows point first! Lol That made him turn from red to a very sick shade of white. My son is a Certified Executive Bodyguard and looks every bit of the job. We informed the jerk that he'd be reported to the ranger, who happens to be a friend of ours, and that if we ever heard of him threatoning anyone else it likely would be the last time he ever did! With that my son sent him scooting down the road with his tail between his legs. We then escorted the guy in the wheelchair back to his buddies truck and waited till his buddy showed up. I just can't believe how ignorant some people can be. A year later and I still get mad thinking about it.
It is sub humans like that guy that are the main causes of " hunting accidents " To bad that we lack a season for the loud mouth jackass it is a species that is definitely over populated.

This is so sad and hats off to you guys and the disabled hunter for maintaining his cool -- the angry guy was very lucky.

Marketing $$$
""WhyTF is ******* promoting crossbows? Aside from the ethical issue of lazy crossbow "hunters" getting to hunt during normal archery seasons, you've got the whole gamut of poaching issues these "archers" have created in various states, that is well documented (IA, IL, PA, OH). If someone has a physical handicap and CBs are their only option, excellent, go get 'em. Otherwise, CBs are NOT 'archery' equipment and have been nothing more than a money/marketing grab by OEMs to capitalize on lazy/unethical hunters. LRH is not about archery. Let the crossbow marketing $$$ go. Stop enabling the not-disabled and ethically lazy.

.""

There is a rifle shooting forum I subscribe to and this above post was from a fellow member. It is a shame how some people's minds interpret and then project what they deam as ethical and morally correct!!! Most of my hunting life has been archery hunting. Mostly recurve and long bows, I strayed away a few times to compounds, but always come back to my passion of the primitive style. Crossbows have always tickled my fancy though. Hunters of all walks need to band together to keep what we love. . .if not, the Green Peace Bunny Hugg'n Bastards will rule the world!!!

I know this is an old thread but after reading it and the people that stand up for what is right. It made me reminess.
when my dad was alive and in the nursing home as he needed intraveinous antibiotics, I got a call from the home and went up there and they were moving my dad and his room mate to seperate rooms. I asked dad what happened and he said that his room mate got mad and started standing over him slapping him on the head. Of my next question was what did you do. His answer to me was I got mad and kicked the S--t out of him with my good leg.
Needless to say it was very interesting while those two were on the same wing.

O.P. sounds as real as all the other fake news out there anymore. Go write a fiction novel.
You have the first few paragraphs finished already.
Loser.
