I have both the "tube type” and the rectangular window reflex type. I prefer the wider reflex style red dots. Good luck.

Thanks, is the rectangular one a vortex?

Yes, that was their largest window Razor model, but I didn’t like having the on/off buttons right up against the window.

I sold it and have (2) Venoms with the auto-brightness feature. One’s on my new 20ga turkey gun, the other used to be on a Jack Plate for the Deathstalker but for some stupid reason I sold the Jack Plate.

I just think the filed of view is better than the round tube types - ymmv.
.
Gottcha thanks for the advice.
I have a vortex reflex on my grim reaper.Love the way it shoots and so light....

TP,
Do you notice any shortcomings of the reflex style sights? Particularly in misty, rainy, snowy or bright sunshine.
I have a Burris FF2 on my Glock 20 and like it a lot but the rig always rides in a fanny pack so don't really how it would be out there in the elements. Thanks
Aim point pro if I could afford it and had to have a red dot for a hunt.

None whatsoever.

When I had the Vortex Razor reflex, it had a cover with a place to thread a string thru to secure it to the rail.

I have Venoms now, no attachment for a string but the covers are a much tighter fit that holds it secure.

I also have a Venom on my new 20ga turkey gun. But I take the cover off whether crossbow or shotgun, and I haven’t used either one in the rain yet.

This evening I ordered a Vortex Venom for my Turbo MI. Hopefully I'll like it as well as TP seems to like his, he made me do it because of this thread...:D
Hear's a pic of one on my new 20ga semi-auto I bought last spring for turkey season. I didn’t notice the additional 2 oz of weight.

No but Ole Tom did, nice bird.
Tp what is that 20 gauge you have ?
Mossberg SA20 Turkey. It came with a turkey choke but it didn’t pattern well enough. I bought a Carlson and put 23 pellets in the paper turkey target kill zone form 30 yards. The Benelli and Berretta were too dang expensive. The Vortex Venom worked great on it.

I have a Sig Sauer Romeo5 the is fabulous. Is a single dot, 2moa, motion activated (turns on and on my motion) with a battery life claimed at 50,000 hours. Cost in the the $100 range and the red dot displays very well on the brightest sunny days.
Sig Saur Romeo 5 review:

CONS

  • The MOTAC can be disadvantageous when it comes to unexpected encounters. It might not function when needed, especially in combat wherein you do not aim at targets continuously.
  • This red dot sight claims that it has more than 40,000 hours of battery life, which sounds amazing and at the same time incredulous. This amount of battery life can be attained when the optic is used sporadically but that will not be the case if you are a new enthusiast or a seasoned gunman. The latter also knows that 2,000 to 5,000 hours of battery life is more sensible, so this part seems misleading for the consumers.
  • The 5-Year Warranty can be off-putting to those whose optic has components not covered by the Infinite Guarantee.

GENERAL USER IMPRESSIONS
I tried hard to be unprejudiced but I also viewed what others had to say about this optic. More people chiming in their thoughts about it will better help you decide if this is for you or not.

Reviewers from Amazon and Optics Planet raved how durable, affordable, and clear the sight is with this product. However, some complained that its MOTAC feature can be inconsistent and can drain their battery life. Others were appalled that they got a bad batch, citing quality control issues that point to the product being manufactured in China instead of the US.

I use a Tru-Glo 3 red dot, 1 MOA (I think) on top of HHA Optimizer. Would prefer automatic brightness function. Good fit to a limited budget. I like having a vertical reference line to correct level hold.
