hi ya'll, I've been a member for awhile and do alot of reading but haven't had to many questions till now. I bought a swat xp and its pretty awesome and super accurate. I have probably put 50 or 60 shots through it and have been applying trident with a q tip every 5-8 shots or so but wasn't putting the q tip all the way to the inside edges of the actual barrel close to the middle. i was putting it more on the outside edges. so when I looked down the barrel I see I've already worn down the serving in the middle. my question is can I still use it to get me through the season if I only shoot it if I get a shot on a deer or to decock it? any help is appreciated, thanks and nice to meet ya'll.

Welcome to CN Marshall. Regarding your string question I would not shoot the crossbow until the serving is repaired or the string is replaced. If the string were to break the bow could be damaged and you may be injured. Play it safe.

X2 Dont shoot it. I'd contact KI. A serving should last longer than that. I doubt the cause is from the lube or lack there of. Possibly a sharp arrow nock would be my guess.

Let's hope they get ya fixed up before the season starts. I have heard good things about KI's warranty. Good luck and when you get it fixed kill a good un.

I would PM Martymig and get him to reserve that string as soon as you get it replaced and have him make you a new one as a backup at the same time as he will have the measurements from your current string. His servings do not separate.

I'm probably gonna put it up on ebay and just order me a centerpoint mercenary off Amazon, then I'll have some left over $ too. I've had specialist for a few years and have put god knows how many shots through it and the serving wear is minimal. I like the swat but after owning it I think I figured out I don't need a speedy ultra narrow bow. thanks again for the help and keep an eye on ebay if anyone is interested

Isn't eBay now charging 20% fees? I think I would list it either in the classifieds here or on the Crossbow Talk classifieds. Both would be better! :)

you probably shouldn't ask me lol but your kit looks better than mine. I vote pay attention to inside the actual barrel where the ridges are. that was the part I wasn't getting to

I‘ve never lub’d the barrel but do lub the serving on the string with a q-tip . FWIW, I have 100s of shots with the string serving still looking good. Hint, taking the string off and twisting to tighten the serving helps prevent serving seperation. I have >2,000 shots thru original SWATs and have never lub’d the barrel, nor cleaned the barrel.
