Just got my striker solution SL 390 back from BowTech last week. Disappointed to find out they replaced the limbs with the 350 model so now I shoot 40 ft./s less. I’m sure it’s still gonna be an awesome crossbow even though its been de tuned to shoot 40 feet per second slower and the deer will probably never know what the distance I shoot them at. It just irks me that I can walk into Walmart right now and buy two different crossbows on clearance that shoot a claim 405 ft./s for $212! How modern times have changed! I realize they’re nowhere near the quality, but when a cheap xbow can shoot faster(or at least claimed faster) it bugs me. With that said, my buddy has been trying to talk me into buying an R10 since they came out. He had the same striker and sent it in for limb replacements, and then sold it for about 100 bucks less than what he paid for it brand new that same year and bought an R10 way back in the day. I realize I’m only gonna gain about 10 ft./s over my original striker limbs but I always like the idea of being able to Decock the xbow by cranking it down. He said that you can hold the button in so it’s completely silent and Seib’s buying the R5 model? He said you just have to hold onto the crank, so it doesn’t Decock itself and shoot? I know we just bought another one and was contemplating on buying a different model, but he said he liked his R 10 so much he bought an extra one for his wife and kids. Doesn’t seem like there anymore than what I paid for my solution SL 390 back in the day which was $1049 back in 2015. I just got a brand new flight deck, which is basically the whole aluminum rail installed on mine from warranty along with new limbs and I paid for new strings cables and cams…so it’s basically brand new. I still have the original receipt so if, and when I sell it which I probably will, I will give the receipt along with the crossbow so whoever buys it can still get a lifetime warranty coverage with it. I’ve been looking at it off at crossbows and of course I would like to buy a 500 ft./s Raven or the 10 point model but it seems that everything over 400 ft./s has been having issues in one way or another. You get above the 400 ft./s mark in a quality crossbow you’re paying $2500 plus so I almost double to gain 50 feet per second. I also just bought a savage 24F predator chambered in 22 hornet and 12 gauge choked barrel. Got it from the original owner, who never shot it. I put about a dozen rounds or less through the hornet and three rounds through the 12 gauge the other day. Someone go on GunBroker for 1200 bucks so I figured I could always throw my 24F on there and end up getting in our town that I would obviously use way more. I have plenty of shotguns and predator rifles that I don’t use already. I sit in my tree stand probably two months plus a year with a crossbow so my guess is, it would be a lot better investment. Any suggestions pros or cons on the R 10 or R5 or another model? Come to think of it. I have plenty of guns that are laying around. I never use that I could sell and get a 500 ft./s crossbow as well. I just don’t know if they’ve got all the skeletons worked out of the closet on them yet. I have a savage 220 stainless 20 gauge that’s bedded along with a case of 3 inch Accu tips which it likes that will shoot all in the same hole at 100 yards I can pawn off to which is probably worth close to as much as that 24F… how long do you other guns? I’ll never use that I bought for a hop skip and a jump. The other thing I think is the 400 ft./s threshold got crossed over a dozen years ago and maybe I should wait till summer or the end of summer to see if anything new is on the horizon in terms of new and exciting Xbows?

The R10 is a fantastic bow. I would argue the best buy for the money that you can get. I have few packages deals for about 1200.00 now and then. Thats a great deal for a bow of this performance level.
Great trigger, compact, cocking and decocking, decent scope for a factory model. Light weight too.

I have the original R9, and bought it new when they just came out- absolutely awesome bow- my daughter and I have killed countless deer with it over the past 6yrs (whatever it's been). I know the company has changed hands and there have been issues with quality control, mostly in regard to the R500. But I have heard nothing but good things about the R10 models. Right around 400fps seems to be the sweet spot for Ravin's designs regarding components and string wear. I shoot my R9 as minimally as possible to conserve string, serving, and cable life. I think I have only changed the cables and strings out once over the course of those 6 years. I shoot about 3 shots each month simply to keep it in use, and then hunt with it during the season. I am guessing it gets about 30 shots/year on it. I also keep those strings and cables properly lubricated as well. Go for the R10, I seriously doubt you will be disappointed. As for a scope, if you don't like the one that comes with it, then you can buy a better one at a fairly decent price (assuming you aren't looking for an Oracle or Garmin).

I have had an R10 since 2018 Most amazing accurate and reliable bow on the market. I have taken many deer with it. Love that Xbow. I have an R20 also, and it is great, just don't think I need anything more than an R10. Wouldn't own anything else. I use my R20 mostly as a back up xbow. Both are set up with a Sig Sauer BDX scope paired to a range finder. Taken deer with both of them. Excellent combo.

I grabbed my early 2018 R10 yesterday to see if my OX was still shooting good after hunting season ended.
I knew the crossbow was fine because cam timing was dead on after I cocked it.

I swear the older I get, the more I need to practice with that OracleX.

Set my rinehart deer target out for the first shot and soon after, the darn wind picked up.
I'm shooting from my front porch so I need to move the target after every shot to fully test my OX calibration. The cool thing about that scope is you really don't care where you set the target. I just stick it out there somewhere and walk back to the house.
After the wind died back down a few minutes later, I promptly hit the 12 ring with the first shot at 31 yards.
Moved the target back a little more and killed the 12 ring again, this time at 37 yards.
Moved the target back once more but I'll be dang if I didn't forgot to push the range button. Hence, it was still giving me a drop down dot at 37 yards. The arrow shot low and fully penetrated the target so I had to go get my metal detector to find the arrow buried in my front pasture.

After inspecting the arrow, one vane was partially loose so I just grabbed another arrow from my quiver and switched out the real broadhead for my practice broadhead tip.
This time I remembered to finally push the dang range button and the OX promptly read 44 yards. I was also having a little problem seeing the 12 ring clearly because of variable cloud cover so I bumped the scope magnification up from my standard 5X to 7X. That took care of the problem and Bingo, I drilled the 12 ring again.

Absolutely love the combination of my R10 and the OX but it does take some mental adjustment. And that can be a real challenge sometimes for this old gezzer.

Well, Cabelas has a sale on them right now. They also been offering 10% off every week and interest free for a year with my Cabela’s card so I might be pulling the trigger here in the next week or two! The only bad part is, is I get the old camo style. I don’t most rather have the updated camo version. When I get closer to doing this, I’ll have to call them and see if there’s an option to get the new camouflage. there are 1149 on sale and they’ve been running 10% off every week so will be about a grand Give or take a few bucks.

my question is, can I run my 20 inch arrows and just switch the knocks out or do they have specialized arrows that I have to buy specifically?

You need to be careful using your own arrows with a Ravin. Ravin arrows tend to be lighter spined like BEEs and this can help to minimize rest roller wear. You'll also need alum. nock bushings and Ravin nocks as Robert mentioned earlier.

If you really want your Ravin to shine, I'd suggest 20" spine indexed and spine matched BEEs with 110 grain inserts for better FOC and consistent grouping.

WWB knows how to make them right.

My son has a R10 and he let me borrow it from time to time last year. I took a nice buck with it. Now this is the only crossbow I have ever shot but man this thing is amazing. I practiced with it out to 80 yards and was holding about a 3" group. I plan on buying a bow for next season and the R10 is one I am considering. I plan on pairing it with a Burris scope.

I think I want to get the 2023 model with the updated orange lock ring and new camo pattern. Cabelas lists last years model. I’ll have to shop around or see if they have the updated 2023 model For around what Cabelas is selling them for. Think a saw the new model for around $1049 some where. I’ll keep power shopping and get my gun listed that will pay for the xbow.

Check out wyvern creation. I'm pretty sure that's where I'll be buying my crossbow from. Not sale tax and he throws in some extras. Plus you can pick out what scope you want. now I just have to pick out what bow I want. I'm between a R10, R10X and the TP viper 430

If you're going to pay more to get a new camo version, I'd go with the 10X. It shoots pretty darn good as well right out of the box and has the quiet cranking and more speed with an adjustable stock and cheek piece.

BTW, I bet you don't even need 450 grain custom arrows for it to still shoot good.
Fred can chime in but as I recall, he shot a 95 yard group using custom arrows where all 3 arrows were touching each other.
