Thinking of buying an R10?

Just got my striker solution SL 390 back from BowTech last week. Disappointed to find out they replaced the limbs with the 350 model so now I shoot 40 ft./s less. I’m sure it’s still gonna be an awesome crossbow even though its been de tuned to shoot 40 feet per second slower and the deer will probably never know what the distance I shoot them at. It just irks me that I can walk into Walmart right now and buy two different crossbows on clearance that shoot a claim 405 ft./s for $212! How modern times have changed! I realize they’re nowhere near the quality, but when a cheap xbow can shoot faster(or at least claimed faster) it bugs me. With that said, my buddy has been trying to talk me into buying an R10 since they came out. He had the same striker and sent it in for limb replacements, and then sold it for about 100 bucks less than what he paid for it brand new that same year and bought an R10 way back in the day. I realize I’m only gonna gain about 10 ft./s over my original striker limbs but I always like the idea of being able to Decock the xbow by cranking it down. He said that you can hold the button in so it’s completely silent and Seib’s buying the R5 model? He said you just have to hold onto the crank, so it doesn’t Decock itself and shoot? I know we just bought another one and was contemplating on buying a different model, but he said he liked his R 10 so much he bought an extra one for his wife and kids. Doesn’t seem like there anymore than what I paid for my solution SL 390 back in the day which was $1049 back in 2015. I just got a brand new flight deck, which is basically the whole aluminum rail installed on mine from warranty along with new limbs and I paid for new strings cables and cams…so it’s basically brand new. I still have the original receipt so if, and when I sell it which I probably will, I will give the receipt along with the crossbow so whoever buys it can still get a lifetime warranty coverage with it. I’ve been looking at it off at crossbows and of course I would like to buy a 500 ft./s Raven or the 10 point model but it seems that everything over 400 ft./s has been having issues in one way or another. You get above the 400 ft./s mark in a quality crossbow you’re paying $2500 plus so I almost double to gain 50 feet per second. I also just bought a savage 24F predator chambered in 22 hornet and 12 gauge choked barrel. Got it from the original owner, who never shot it. I put about a dozen rounds or less through the hornet and three rounds through the 12 gauge the other day. Someone go on GunBroker for 1200 bucks so I figured I could always throw my 24F on there and end up getting in our town that I would obviously use way more. I have plenty of shotguns and predator rifles that I don’t use already. I sit in my tree stand probably two months plus a year with a crossbow so my guess is, it would be a lot better investment. Any suggestions pros or cons on the R 10 or R5 or another model? Come to think of it. I have plenty of guns that are laying around. I never use that I could sell and get a 500 ft./s crossbow as well. I just don’t know if they’ve got all the skeletons worked out of the closet on them yet. I have a savage 220 stainless 20 gauge that’s bedded along with a case of 3 inch Accu tips which it likes that will shoot all in the same hole at 100 yards I can pawn off to which is probably worth close to as much as that 24F… how long do you other guns? I’ll never use that I bought for a hop skip and a jump. The other thing I think is the 400 ft./s threshold got crossed over a dozen years ago and maybe I should wait till summer or the end of summer to see if anything new is on the horizon in terms of new and exciting Xbows?

Well, Cabelas has a sale on them right now. They also been offering 10% off every week and interest free for a year with my Cabela’s card so I might be pulling the trigger here in the next week or two! The only bad part is, is I get the old camo style. I don’t most rather have the updated camo version. When I get closer to doing this, I’ll have to call them and see if there’s an option to get the new camouflage. there are 1149 on sale and they’ve been running 10% off every week so will be about a grand Give or take a few bucks.

my question is, can I run my 20 inch arrows and just switch the knocks out or do they have specialized arrows that I have to buy specifically?

Sounds good at least I know I can use my arrows as long as the Raven nocks fit in them.

I think I want to get the 2023 model with the updated orange lock ring and new camo pattern. Cabelas lists last years model. I’ll have to shop around or see if they have the updated 2023 model For around what Cabelas is selling them for. Think a saw the new model for around $1049 some where. I’ll keep power shopping and get my gun listed that will pay for the xbow.
What's the difference between the R10 and R10X?
The 10 x is $2G. I would rather go to a 29X For about the same kind of money…or pretty close to it
If I buy one I’ll wait and get the 2023 model with updated camo and orange lock ring on the optic. I still haven’t mentally committed to a new xbow yet but I’m getting close. I’d really like a 2023 505 but imo a quality xbow a 100 fps slower for 2/3’s less I’m probably not going to see much difference in drop out to 60 yards?
So there’s seven or $800 difference for another 20 ft./s? The 10 X is like two grand versus the 10 I have found for $1013. before I bought a 10 X I would jump to a 26 or 29 for only a couple hundred dollars more.
Just ordered one from Cabelas for $1075 with free shipping! I thought they had it on sale a little cheaper but I guess not. Being a club member, they also price match certain stores, but no one had a cheaper. I thought Sportsmans guide had it for 1099 or 1049 with club member a few weeks back but it’s at $ 1249 now so no dice. If so, Cabelas with a price matched it took another 5% off! I think the lower price at $1049 I ended up seeing was a 10 point listed for sale in google when I googled Raven R10. I did also find one, but it was used or I should say listed as a demo model from a place that Cabelas doesn’t price match Anyways. At Cabelas It’s on sale for $1195 and they have 10% off code for club members starting at midnight and I also got 12 months interest free with the card even though I’m gonna end up paying the balance after I sell a couple guns I don’t use here in the next week or two. It’s last years model in predator camo. I would like to get this year‘s model with the new camouflage and orange lock ring on the scope but everywhere I see them they’re $1599. So over a $500 difference plus more $$$$ in taxes.

Good thing I got up at midnight central standard time to get it ordered.lol. Cabelas didn’t update their webpage from yesterday yet when I did so. I was plugging in the 10% off code and it wasn’t taking at first. I kept adding it in on and off and then I went to the checkout screen after about 15 minutes and it applied the 10% discount. It was supposed to be activated on the 30th so I figured I’d get up at midnight and give it a try. Also, the 12 months interest free financing was supposed to be through the 29th. When I went to cashier outlet, it still was activated and said I had 12 months interest free on my purchase because I use my Cabela’s card! Well, I can’t sleep now and it’s 10 after one.lol. They finally updated their home page and took away the 12 months interest free. I snapped a picture of my receipt showing that it gave me 12 months interest free on my purchase, so I’m good to go I’m sure! Woohoo!
I just checked it looks like they’re clearing out last years R26 as well for $1499 and i would get another $150 off with coupon so $1350! I thought that one was faster than the R 10 but it looks like it’s also rated at 400 ft./s. I also see it’s like 340 pound limbs versus 270 on the R10. They also had nine bad reviews with limbs blowing up in the last six months. Now I know that one’s on sale! I know that one’s a lot shorter. I’m 6’2” with a 32 1/2 inch drawing length so the R10 will fit me better.

I also signed up for texting and they gave me an additional $10 off you can only put in one code though so I had to email it and just got a confirmation that they gave me another 10 bucks off it's getting better already! I did read that most of them shoot about 405fps out of the box. I sure like the looks of the r26 for $300 more but I just am not willing to gamble on it after reading here of people having servings coming loose quite a bit after 40 shots or less and also with alot of bad reviews with the limbs and strings braking while stored or resting in a hunting blind. I also see Ravin has reconditioned R26's for $1499 listed in their web page page. That throws a big flag by itself for me alone.
From what I researched the r26 has a 340 lb draw weight versus 270 lb on the r10. That's a lot of extra poundage for the same velocity in my opinion. The local bow shop told me today the reason why the r26's have have been letting loose and blowing up is all from 100% user error. He said it's because people are not changing out the strings and cables every year so they brake and let loose. I'm not buying what the guy was selling. And of course he had a half a dozen of them there sitting on the rack that they couldn't sell that were also priced $700 higher than Cabela's currently. They were the same ones that tried to pound a new crossbow up my rear end when I took my Stryker in for warranty so I don't really believe a lot of what they had to say but I was at their Mercy today to put a string on my old Horton. A month ago they told me $20 to do it then I called the other day and said I was going to bring it in and they told me 30. When I walked out of there it today it was 36 bucks ...shocking. I'll have to see if there's another archery dealer close to me cuz I'd really like to give them my business instead. There was also some younger employee there smiling and smirking going at my old Horton as well. Literally trying to go out of his way to be a smart ass. I made sure to tell them after I paid for the string that I did get my Striker fixed and I'm going to use that for a backup Bow because I bought an r10 this morning from Cabela's. I made sure to ask them how much strings and cables were to replace on their Ravens a few minutes before letting the cat out of the bag. I told him I'd bring mine in next year and they could replace the strings and cables for the quoted $188. At least ill know how much they will try and put me on the elevator because I didn't buy my crossbow from them.

Got a R10 finally. Cabelas had a sale and another 10% off! Was $1165 for the R10 in predator camo and the R26 was $1349 after discounts. After seeing all the photos with nine different photos of broken limbs and strings I steered away from it. Also how the servings were coming unraveled after 40 shots or less. Too much like a high maintenance girl friend imo. My R10 got delayed in Chicago by Fed Ex. It cam opened and taped back shut with blue tape. It was damaged as well. Returned it for another one that came BLACK this time. Box was beat up by Fed Ex again but not opened this time. They drove by my house and never stopped...30 seconds later, I got a text saying they came to the door and no one answered! Called FedEx and they got the driver turned around and re-delivered. Before I open the box, I looked at it and it said Ravin R10 black so I called Cabela’s. Cabela said that they thought I got a R10X in a R10 box... I wish I did!!! I had to email them pictures. They weren’t aware that they are 10 was offerer both in black and camo. Everywhere in the planet there’s a $200 difference between black and the camo version because Ravin had to pay for the rights to use predator camo. I grew up with the guy that invented the pattern. Cabela said they’d send me a return label and send me a predator camo R10 as I paid for. About two minutes later I got a phone call back from Cabela’s and said they discount it down $195.96 because it was black. I took the $200 discount and kept it. I can live without camo for $869… but I sure did like that predator Camo!!! To me it looks a lot sharper. Looks like they went back to normal price in the last couple days at $1399.oo. It’s still listed as last year‘s model with the predator camo. I would think it’s gonna be pretty hard for them to unload last year‘s model at fullbore price. I did talk to Raven yesterday. They told me that they haven’t printed the predator camo On any of their models in over a year so the first xbow I got sent that was damaged. He said it was a really old crossbow probably a year and a half old. He told me they i’ve been offering the black ones since and then I got a newer one as they just sent a shipment to the warehouse in winter of 22’. Ravin also didn’t change the SKU number when they stopped offering predator camo and changed exclusively to black. I’m pretty excited it tested at 414 ft./s out of the factory!!! So it feels like I got a 420 fps R10 X or an R5 that I didn’t have to pay for the extra velocity!!!
