After months of deliberation ... and $825.00 in Cabelas Bucks I ordered a 5-25x ATN X-Sight 5. As I'd expect from ATN some people have been having issues with them. When they're right, they seem to be superb. BUT, I've been so impressed with my ATN X-Sight 4k Pro since TX_RDXguy helped me out I figured to bite the bullet and burn the Cabelas Bucks. OH, soooo typical of Cabelas they had the optic but not the one with the optional built in rangefinder. That took that LRF option off the table for me. Yet for my intended use inside 150 yards there's really not much need for it. ATN X-Sight 5 5-25x Smart Ultra HD Day & Night Rifle Scope - ATN Corp

TX_RDXguy is probably making the sign of the cross and considering going dark for fear of being burdened with my trials & tribulations.😂 Perhaps he'll be making sacrifices to the technology gods that I get a "good" X5. ;) I'm going into this one with my eyes wide open and rather than being infuriated by any glitches, hopefully I'll be more focused on the end results.

Wish me luck... LOL

I’ve been contemplating it myself. I’m being drawn to it like a duck flying south in the winter but dropping 6k on my daughter’s braces has quelled that a bit. I’m hoping for a Christmas sale or start to see some nice used going up with the LRF option. The 4K is nice but the weight drop of the 5 along with being a little more compact seems like it would make a big difference

It is attractive ... magnetic even...LOL

How did you know I was a Catholic?

Actually, I'm happy to see you stepping out on a limb Duke and yes, I pray that you get a good one. For the kind of hunting you do, a scope like this is a great tool to have and the new form factor is a plus. I've got mine mounted on the TX440 and after 4 setup sessions, it's behaving.

Check the firmware immediately and make sure it's .782 or greater as I hear a new FW is due any day.

The 4K Pro firmware is slightly changed for the XS5. Fundamentally it's 90% the same and not hard to adapt to.

You have my number.....

they have had waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more then enough time to iron out any issue at all with this model. I would expect perfection.

About a year now on the Gen 5. I'm reasonably patient...... Bought mine in August and thank goodness I have an ATN store not far away who have been very accommodating.

The 4K Pro took about the same, maybe only 8 months looking back. It was a huge platfrom change from the XSight HDIIs.

I will agree that they don't seem too concerned about the experience a new buyer has who may not tolerate their new release learning curve.

Not quite ... a testimonial for my patience and technological acumen, is it??? 😂;) It's true though...LOL

Rich I am going to do a novena for you at my local Catholic church that iron dukes set up works.

]I wouldn't buy anywhere unless like Rich said a store nearby that's an ATN store or directly from ATN mail order.
Even though they got most of the bugs out on the 5 k you still have an extra step of turning the ballistic calculator on or off where you didn't have to do that with the 4K, but devil's advocate on the 4K with the ABL you have to turn the ABL on after you turn the scope on. You don't have to do that with a new 5K

so it's almost a wash regarding setup. So far I'm very happy with my 4K, but the day I'm not I got no issues why I won't go to the 5

God ... is going to wonder what's going on down at CBN with all the requests showing up on his desk. He usually only gets mail from here if someone is sick. :p 😂

Oh god help us all Duke is moving onto more complicated scopes. Remember this thread in the fall when Duke is going off at 4 in the morning how he had the buck of a lifetime in front of him and he didn’t bother to do the firmware update the day before and nothing is working. Good luck 😳🤔😉

Watching videos ... and everyone thinks the X5 is an improvement over the X4 ... and everyone has had some issues. Universally agree that ATN customer service is outstanding. I came across a video of an ATN representative giving a course on setting up the X5. For the two or three of you bold enough to buy one of these it may save a lot of angst to listen to a "how to" from ATN itself. It's a secondhand video but works. I found with the X-Sight 4k Pro that there are a lot of tricks and procedures that aren't in the official documents. Things you'd never discover if "somebody" else didn't clue you in. Listen ... Some of this stuff has no basis in common logic. For example "when you format the microSD card you should do it IN the X5. So for some reason you can't format it in your computer or in your camera. (Heck, 99% of the people out there never formatted an SD card in their life) Okay, I get it. Makes some sense if you're stretching things. BUT... after you format the card IN the X5 you have to take it OUT of the X5, shut down the X5, Put the card back in and start the X5 again!!! Now any normal Imbecile would figure once you format an SD card, you're good to go. An expert once told me "once you turn on your X-Sight 4K Pro, don't do anything for 15 seconds." Like how many screw up did someone go through to discover that??? It's not 3 seconds, 5, 7, 12 ... it's FIFTEEN SECONDS! Your average moron would figure once you start your TV you can immediately change the channel, right? Not have to wait 15 seconds before using it. Apparently not if you're dealing with these particular cross-eyed engineers at ATN.😂 My point is this is like the dawn of the industrial revolution where everyone is learning from others working on the same problems, the airplane, machine gun, automobile, electric light, etc., etc. All the procedures are NOT coming from ATN the manufacturer. :p;)

By the way ...

The clinical Cretan scale is as follows:
#1. Idiot= The adult intellect that never exceeds that of a 2 year old.
#2. Imbecile= 7-year-old.
#3. Moron = 12-year-old.

I have no ... rangefinder (LRF) because the Cretans at Cabelas have the ATN X5 at 3-15x or 5-25x but not the models WITH the LRF option. I tend to make purchases with as much versatility as I can get. "Better to have it and not need it" so for the few $ more I would have gotten the LRF. My intended use is on a Crossbow or Precision .22lr or Slug-gun. So, my maximum range will be under 150 yards. The LRF would be nice but isn't really necessary for me. I have an ATN X4 already so buying another ATN is pretty extravagant, hence I wanted to burn the Cabela's Bucks that are Mad Money laying there and not buy it somewhere else by taking the money out of the mattress. ;)

LOL... Fortunately I stay calm under pressure. :p ;) The problem is root'en around the button array in the dark. Particularly with gloves on. I actually took some of my girlfriends stick on pearls that they use in crafts and glued them onto the buttons on my FLIR so I can feel the right one in the dark. I'll have that X5 doing an Irish Jig just trying to take a picture. TX_ will be getting frantic texts at 2:00am. :oops:o_O:sneaky:

Exactly ... what I use...LOL They work! I tried using 3M Non-Slip tape but I still can't tell the difference with gloves on in the dark and in the optic. The problem is the "Menu" button pulls up the menu if I'm trying to zoom in on a target. Fortunately, FLIR was smart enough to not cover the whole screen, but still it's in the way and distracting under the pressure of making a kill or kills. The issue is trying to determine when to put down the thermal FLIR , get in the scope and as lined up as you can guess, switch on the weapon light and take the shot/shots. The operation isn't as easy as you'd think. The charging port "feels" like a button in the dark with gloves too, so that confuses the situation even more. Once I glued on the appropriately sized "split pearl" my problems went away. I always have the "Start" button as a point of reference that I can easily feel with a pair of Mechanix gloves on. I rarely accidently hit the menu button anymore.

Everything ... has a purpose and a reason for being there. My goal is flexibility to make safe, clean, quick, humane kills by reducing the misinterpretation of the target and its surrounding conditions. Taking as much guesswork out of the targeting and kill equation as possible. Become as efficient and proficient as attainable. Exploiting available technology to accomplish the above while preventing potential CFs & GFs only makes good sense ... to me anyway. ;)

I bought this unit about 7-8 months ago on Amazon, and it was nothing but trouble- returned it for a refund a few days later. I didn't want to waste a ton of time sending it back and forth to ATN. I'm guessing they have ironed out most of the problems, but now I am afraid to pull the trigger on one again, and I am always nervous about depending on an electronic scope when deer hunting-constantly afraid the unit is going to fail me when the moment of truth arrives. All that being said, any of you using an ATN unit with the laser range finder please post your input data regarding ballistics, such as ballistic coefficient, etc. If I start reading some good reviews, I might purchase the unit again. NOTE- those of you looking for a slight deal on ATN scopes, Optic Planet often offers between 10-12% off.

It’s a leap of faith going from a traditional scope to electric.

The XSight 5 LRF I have on the TX440 is currently setup this way:
Drag Function - G1
Ballistic Coefficient- 0.05
Bullet Weight - 429 gn
Muzzle Velocity - 420 fps
Zero Range - 30 y
Sight Height - 3.25”

Duke you definitely are the gadget man
Now you know why his back pack has wheels on it. :D Just Kidding. ;)

Makes sense to me. :)

Missed?... I remember a "miss" out on an island in the Pacific at about 85 yards a number of years ago at night. Found out the AR15 scope was off the next morning and I've had a couple deer move during brain shots. Not to sound pompous but I don't recall missing any vitals shot deer. The ATN deal is its phenomenal ability to collect light at dawn & dusk. I was shocked that in Daylight mode how well it saw deer under the canopy, overcast and still legal but nearly very dark out. Even with an illuminated reticle there was no shot with a glass scope. The ATN saw them like it was noontime on a cloudy day. Then there's the high magnification and adjustable objective lens which are big with me. And of course, with Depredation Permit situations and outright nighttime use there's the Night Vision mode that eliminates all the red light-white light falderal. I can spot with the FLIR thermal and switch right over to an ATN night vision optic that knows exactly where the deer is. With a glass scope and weapon light, once I put down the FLIR I have to guess if my crosshairs are in position before I "light'em up" to start shooting. BIG advantage. Plus, with the right IR weapon light intensity the animal doesn't even know there's anything going on. The shot is just a "bolt from the blue."

When an ATN is working right its versatility and capability buries Burris and/or Garmin.

As for video, I never got that far with my X-Sight 4K Pro. I took a snapshot or two but that was it. I'm sure I'll eventually get there and see if it's of any use to me though.
